We Don't Get a Vote...

but if we did get a vote FIGHTING HAWKS is LetsGoDU's preferred nickname for The University of North Dakota when voting resumes next week. In a spirit of goodwill, we will donate our 'retired' Red-tailed Hawk to UND.

Fighting Hawks was the leading vote-getter last week and received 31% of the votes cast. Also, under consideration are Roughriders & Nodaks. The winner needs 50% of the vote to win.

I feel bad for many North Dakota fans on this who have done nothing except support their school over the years with one of the best nicknames in all of college sports. They've had to put up with a huge amount of politically correct BS from the NCAA, Fighting Sioux nickname opponents, and their own school's embarrassing (and often manipulative) handling of this school nickname election.

We DU fans have been through our own mascot battles, where our harmless school traditions have been held hostage by a few malcontents and our school has compounded this issue by not only caving to the malcontents, but manipulating the process so that our own fans could only vote for the approved choices.

We could offer ND a 99 year deal for the exclusive rights to the chicken hawk logo and name. Remember, it's Coombe approved!

Pathetic note to add: I visited a Chatham, NJ lacrosse store last week. They still had RED Hawk DU hats on display selling for $22. They said they would buy DU National Championship hats, etc.
