Miami Shines In New Arena

Miami University brought out the "A" Game tonight and throttled the Pioneers 5-2 before a sellout crowd at the brand new Cady Arena. It was an ugly game for DU, but Miami just was better team tonight. They swarmed the net and made good on the rebounds. I was a little disappointed that DU didn't look better on the PP, PK and especially on the 4 on 4's.

The best news for DU was that after DU fell behind 5-1, Gwoz was seen encouraging the guys on the bench and they came out and "won" the Third Period 1-0.

Miami fans were really nice and very proud of their building. As they should be, as its a great hockey facility. Fun place to watch a game and their students were fantastic.
.
Patrick Mullen (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Chris Butler (St. Louis, Mo.) scored DU's goals, but the Pioneers converted just 1-of-15 power-play opportunities in the season-opening loss.

The Miami win also spoiled the return of DU head coach George Gwozdecky, who returned to Miami for the first time as a visiting coach after leading the RedHawks from 1989-94. DU will play No. 14 Colgate, a 6-0 loser to Vermont, in the consolation game at 2:35 p.m. MT on Saturday.

Sheets you must be so proud of your team. Last tournament they were in they finished fourth. Now a third place trophy in the ice breaker. Hell of a weekend for the boys.

You are right. DU performance in the last two tournaments is totally unacceptable. DU's record is almost as bad as Colorado College's last 11 visits to the NCAA Tournament which have all ended in failure.
