PuckDaddy.com Profiles UND Lawn Boy Joe Finley

(above) UND hockey players Joe Finley & Matt Frattin were arrested on Tuesday night for disorderly conduct, fleeing and giving false information to police

Yahoo Sports hockey-centric website PuckDaddy.com profiled University of North Dakota whiz kid Joe Finley on Wednesday. They mocked his skating ability, mentioned some of his past indiscretions including slashing the University of Wisconsin mascot and finally wondered aloud why an NHL First Round Draft Choice would give false information to the Grand Forks Police. Its a good read.

Needless to say, the University of North Dakota was not impressed with the shenanigans and immediately announced a minimum two-game suspension for co-conspirator Matt Frittin, along with an order to attend counseling, and reducing his scholarship money for the 2009-10 year following his arrest for disorderly conduct.

UND Head Coach Dave Hakstol made several comments in the Grand Forks Fishwrap about the incident.
"We have very high expectations of our guys both on the ice and in the community and a lot of thought was put into this issue."
-UND Coach Dave Hakstol

I will take lawnmower's in the street everytime over this:

"Murno's departure comes after a tumultuous season at DU. Three players were kicked off the team midseason. Ilija Gajic, a junior, was removed from the team last month after he was arrested for a fight at a bar in January. Gajic is the younger brother of Colorado Mammoth player Nenad Gajic and the older brother of DU freshman forward Alex Gajic.

Senior Brad Richardson and sophomore Jamie Lincoln were also removed from the team last month.

According to a report in the DU student newspaper, The Clarion, a woman was attacked Jan. 28 by a group of lacrosse players at a bar.

Another player, sophomore Brendan Deblois, was arraigned on charges from the same fight, the paper said. But he was not kicked off the team last month"

Did Hakstool give the reporter the finger before the quote or was he a gentleman, and waited until they were walking away?

The difference to me is when Denver lax players fight in a bar, they tend to get kicked off the team for good or suspended for a long time at least.

UND players don't tend get kicked off the hocley team. They just get benched a few games...

Denver seems to be a much tougher environment for those who get into trouble than UND has been.

UND players don't get in fights with women at bars. At least they haven't yet anyway.

Don't forget that the Lax Coach was fired immediately after the season despite having a very good record.

Personally I could care less what UND players do and it is kind of funny what happened in this case. But at the end of the day it doesn't look good when so many families can't afford to send their kids to college, can't afford a new lawn mower and don't have a dining room table.

UND was quick to hand out the punishment in this case and it was deservedly tough.

Well handled by the school IMO.

Hey 8:49 - this is a hockey blog (emphasis on hockey). Compare applies to apples. I am certain that if we were to look into other sports at UND we would find that the players were not choir boys.

The other thing is that a lot of this stuff did not get reported in the past, pre-internet. My personal favorite is when I was at UND and d-man Travis Roche broke his hand in a bar fight during the summer. Of course he was under 21 and should not have been drinking but boys will be boys, eh? In fact I was present when explained to Coach Blaise how he ended up with a broken hand. Priceless.

This was a huge deal in the northeast when it happened. You might have a hard time finding the names of the hockey players involved, but there happened to be a future Sioux involved...it was Hextall.
