Is this adding insult to injury to the Flyers Followers? I am confused as to why is this on a DU hockey Blog? Well of course, other than the Pete Stasny ties.... Refresh my memory - any DU Alums in the Hawks system, now or in the past? That's one great thing about hockey & the Stanley Cup - all the trash talk that goes around during the playoffs between the 2 finalists.... it all stops once the Cup is finally handed out. Everyone respects The Cup. (Well, except for maybe the pussies in Buffalo in '99 who still claim Dallas got away with one) LOL
dear Anon, DU Blackhawks--Jim Wiste, Wayne Smith, Lynn Powis and Rich Preston(RPM line),and Rob Palmer.
The two most famous DU Blackhawks are on the Chicago Sun Times list of 50 greatest Blackhawks of all time. Cliff Koroll and Keith Magnuson. Maggie's #3 was retired in 2009 and hangs at the United Center. Both of these DU graduates won NCAA Championships.
Goddamn, that would be cool to see Matty get the Cup. And it still may very well happen in years to come. 2 NCAA rings, a WJC gold medal, a Gold Pan, A Denver Cup, a MacNaughton, A Stanley Cup. All I can say is, that boy better be careful going through airport security with all that shit! His brother will be coaching for an NHL team as well.
Video of Burish taking shots at Pronger after game are embarrassing. Chicago network announcer stated that no one gets more "face-time" than Burish but that he needs to respect the competition and until he can achieve any were near what Pronger has in the NHL he needs to stay off camara with his comments. For touting himself as the only college educated Blackhawk he sounds pretty uneducated!!!
I think with Toews & his team getting the prize, this will finally push alot of NHL teams over the edge to really start a youth movement in the years to come - which will directly impact the NCAA. Seems like some clubs get it and some don't. But clearly, some teams are putting all thier money on like 18 year old kids to turn thier programs around. If anything, I think we'll see more & more kids leaving college early because of this; and the NHL clubs are going to get away from the long-standing "ethics" that say, "Oh son; you need 4 good years of college under your belt before you're ready to come play for us" .
And the big teams like right here at DU.... are going to get more and more 1 & 2 year superstars.

WIth the exception of Towes (UND), & Burrish (WISC), the rest of the Hawks came from the CHL (OHL/WHL). If anything, more players will probably look to the CHL rather than college now...
Anon 11.12- .Duncan Keith played 2 years at Michigan State then 1 year in Kelowna. John Madden 4 years at Michigan. Hendry at Alaska-Fairbanks. Other college guys on roster;Dowell and Skille at Wisco,Bickell at Minny.
Whether you buy your meat in the CHL or you do your shopping from a US College - in general I too think there is a strong youth movement happening in the NHL. I think in 10 or 15 years or so we'll see NHL players' "career life expectancy" shortening. You look at men like Pronger, Weight and all down the line..... late 30's competing with kids that are Duchene, Towes & Carle's age..... it's wild

You are right - I stand corrected. I knew about Skille and some of the others but they really were not with the team much during the season. completely forgot about Keith playing at Mich. State - I always remember him in the BCHL. Ditto for Madden although out of fairness he played back in the dark ages :)

Of course many of us were cheering for DU's Matt Carle of the Flyers to have his name on the Cup.
(2 national Championships: Hobey Baker winner)

Current DU Pioneer Paul Phillips is a Blackhawks Draft Pick/Prospect.
And Phillips is from Chicago. How much fun do you think he's havin?
in one word.........Toews!
Toews won the Olympic Gold, Conn Smythe, and the Stanley Cup in a 5 month span. I say he just one-upped Matt Donovan. And Chris Kreider.
Go Sioux

As much as I love DU, I have waited 49 years for the Hawks to bring the Cup back to Chicago. Johnny Towes is the man and will be for years to come.

Don't forget Toews' Olympic, Best Forward Award.....A nice year indeed.

Who's this Carle everyone on this blog is talking about. I didn't even notice him in the Stanley Cup finals.
