The Ottawa Senators called up former DU defenseman Patrick Wiercioch from their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. It's the first NHL call up for Wiercioch, a native of Burnaby, B.C., who was Ottawa's second-round pick (No. 42 in the 2008 Entry Draft).
Wiercioch played against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night and appeared in 9 minutes of action. Although he was -2 on the evening, he was on the ice for teammate Colin Greening's first goal of the game. The Senators lost 4-3.
Wiercioch, 20, was fourth among Binghamton defensemen in scoring with 4 goals and 16 points in 64 games. Prior to joining Binghamton for his first pro season, Wiercioch played two seasons with the University of Denver, where he scored 18 goals and had 62 points in 75 games.

I watched the highlights of this game. Sadly, it looked more like a low-light film of Patrick. He looked like a Pee-wee among men out there. One more year at DU wouldnt have hurt him after watching him struggle last night.
I can think of several players that probably wished they had stayed at DU another year. Dingle and Paukovich come to mind.
Jay Z ought to learn from this. He needs at least one more year with DU.
Jay Z should learn that Wiercioch is making NHL cash his 1st year out? I'd love to see more of Jay Z but as Bozak has showed, you can make the $ and still get your degree.
Patrick has two words for those that didn't believe he could make it to the NHL!
I've been wrong before, but from what I have read (intrepreted) it looks like Zucker will stay on for at least his soph year. I dont think that spending the year in Houston sounds like a great idea. It's my belief that more and more GMs are getting tired of rushing in great prospects and then having them turn out to be duds.
This is the Wiercioch NHL thread. Sort of disproves the he's a dud theory doesn't it?
Interesting that out of Wiercioch, Colborne & Chevy; Paddy made the first appearance in the NHL.
Congrats to him.
Like all those other guys mentioned - as he continues to grow, bulk up & work with coaches and trainers, Peppermint Patty will just get better and better. And that simply doesn't happen overnight.
RElative to other Pio's, I suspect his call up has a lot to do with the conf standing of the team....It's not like Ottawa has anything to lose.
