DU Lacrosse Rises To #6 & #7 In Latest Polls

(above) DU moved up to #7 in the Nike Inside Lacrosse Poll

Two days after beating powerhouse Duke 12-9 in Bethpage, N.Y., the University of Denver men's lacrosse team received the program's highest rankings in the national polls Monday. The Pioneers, off to an 8-2 start, are No. 7 in the Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 6 in the USILA Coaches poll. DU's previous high ranking was No. 9, achieved last season.

Syracuse (9-0) is the nation's consensus No. 1 team, receiving all first-place votes in both polls. Syracuse defeated the Pioneers 13-7 in the teams' season opener Feb. 20 at the Carrier Dome. DU and Ohio State meet Saturday in the eighth annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown at Invesco Field at Mile High.

its good to see the DU lacrosse team being relevant. I'd love to see them turn into a hot-ticket item at DU. We just need somewhere good to tailgate before the games

DU's only losses are to #1 Syracuse and #2 Notre Dame, and they beat Duke without 2 starting midfielders (Rogers and Lay) who will be out likely until playoff time, if not longer.

DU could very well get a home NCAA playoff game if they keep playing well.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Curtis Green (the midfielder from Canada)?

Freshman Kurtis Green is listed on the team's roster but according to the season's stats has not played in a game. Don't know if he is hurt or has just been a healthy scratch. Maybe someone on campus has more insight.

Kurtis Green is "redshirting" this season.

From Wikipedia...

"Redshirt is a term used in American college athletics that refers to delaying or suspending an athlete's participation in order to lengthen his or her period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, a number derived from the four years of academic classes that are normally required to obtain a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, a student-athlete may be offered the opportunity to redshirt for one year which allows the athlete to spread those four years of eligibility over five years. In a redshirt year, a student athlete may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and dress for play but he or she may not compete during the game. Using this mechanism, a student athlete has up to five academic years to use the four years of eligibility, thus creating the phenomenon of the "fifth-year senior."

DU Lacrosse isn't bigger than DU hockey.

Hockey's won 7 NCAA titles. Lax hasn't won an NCAA game yet.

Hockey averages 5,600 fans per game, while lax averages 1,800.

Hockey tickets average $25, lax tickets $10.

Hockey has 15-18 televised games. Lax has 3-4.

Lax is getting better, but it in no way is it DU's flaship sport.
