Garrett Allen |
Schwartz noted on Wednesday evening, "Apparently Garrett Allen is still committed to Denver, but will come in 2012 not 2011. He signed a Letter of Intent with DU. Although the Concordia SID confirmed that they had been talking to Allen. My apologies to Allen and DU fans for any confusion."

how much of a disappointment is this?
He's been listed as a 2011 recruit not 2012. Probably saw a log jam in front of him at forward at DU and will be a starter at Concordia. Best of luck to him.
Smart kid. Better education and he'll being playing in front of fans that actually know the game of hockey and actually give a s##t about supporting their team.
wow, the sue are back again on the blog. are they on lunch break from wal mart?
I'm guessing wal mart's not too busy today in grand forks because everyone there is too ashamed to step outside after und's choke in the frozen four
This kid was recruited by BC, Wisconsin, Minneosta and DU, among others. He went from 42 points in the USHL in '09/10 to 12 points in '10/11.
Does anyone know what happened? that's an incredible drop in production.
He got pregnant...
No disappointment. Relief, actually.
Obviously, the kid is not improving and is no longer a D-I prospect, and his coaches have liklely advised him that he'll have a more rewarding hockey experience if he plays D-III hockey, arther than being a D-I practice player.
He never signed with DU, only verbaling, so there is no obligation on DU's part to bring him in.
That move probably opens up a scholarship for DU bring a new player or perhaps bring a player in early.
I'd like to see them bring Josiah Didier in a year early. He had a huge jump in the most recent Central Scouting rankings, he's big enough to play now, and he can learn from all the good d-men DU has.
Allen is 155 lbs and his production in the USHL is weak. I'm not going to lose any sleep over this.
He was 155lbs before he got prego. I expect him to put on some weight.
Frankly, I am very relieved. I'm sure we can find a more than adequate replacement! Any thoughts on what the staff will do from here? Any good players out there yet to commit?
This is a great chance for DU to pick up a guy with a nose for the net....we need a goal scorer to round out this class!!!! Or maybe we hold the $s for next year?
So we have a mystery D man and an open spot for a forward. this class could look a lot different in the coming months!
What we need is a big physical forward who has a bug up his ass and isn't afraid to crash the net. We don't need any more guys who are 5'7 160.
I personally know him and known of you know anything. Known of you have any idea. He signed his NLI this year and is going in '12.
The rumor may have started because he was looking to take some classes since he graduated from high school in 2010.
Oh well, sorry for the false alarm on my end.
Next year is obviously shaping up as a very important year for the Pioneers. DU appears to be juggling the recruiting classes to get maximum bang for the buck.
Wow! You pudds just finished trashing this guy for 2 days... :( I'm glad he was given a warn welcome... Enjoy???
Lotsa love .....Gilda said it best......never mind
Gatrret needs more time in the USHL before he hits Div. I. 2012 seems like a better option for both DU and the young man.
( And it's a good sign that Garrett wants to get a head start on college classes.)
Was there an injury or a personal issue? I just can't understand how the scoring could drop so dramatically when he is a year older. I'm excited to see him turn it back on next year in the USHL. I hope he puts some work in during the off season.
from the nhl website:
"A North American player who is not drafted by the age of 20 is an unrestricted free agent. All non-North Americans must be drafted before being signed, regardless of age."
College players used to not be eligible when they were 18 and, thus, were eligible to be drafted at the ages of 19 and 20. This debate happened last year when people were wondering if Dewhurst (LOL) would be drafted, but he was too old. Murray is the same age this year that Dewhurst was last year.
But, anyways, it really does not matter. Murray is not a pro prospect.
Has any one seen him play? Love how kids get shredded here based on stats or on what they have read or heard.
I held back any comments until the dust setteled. Another lesson in not believing what you read. Glad he is headed to DU.
Any fan who puts his own last name on the back of his DU hockey jersey is seriously lacking in sound judgement. No suprises here.
If a forward has a huge drop-off in points in his second year of juniors, its perfectly okay to question the players' ability to perform at the college level.
Sometimes its a team issue like linemates or a bad team or a role change, sometimes its injury, but seeing a big drop-off is never a good sign.
Most often it's that the other kids have caught up and surpassed him in development, and you throw him back for another year of juniors if you can.
For example, taker early commits such as Glasser and Gifford.
Glasser got hurt after a big year in juniors and his second junior year was so-so. He was an okay fourth liner who skated hard every shift at DU, but not the impact player alot of people thought he'd be
Gifford never really made a scoring jump from a Mr.Hockey finalist in Minnesota (and a third round NHL draft pick) to a junior scorer in the USHL. A lot of people noticed his lack of scoring improvement in juniors and questioned how much of an impact player he'd be at this level. They were right - his college impact was low.
Both turned out to be decent role players at DU, but both were busts as projected high scorers.
You will always have hits and misses. Questioning a forward's junior means fans are tuned in...
Great previous post.
I'd also add that there are guys like Chris Knowlton, Luke Salazar, Chris Nutini, John Ryder and many others that didn't have great stats in Juniors or came from the NAHL and became solid contributors.
As always, trust our coaching staff because they have mined more than our fair share of gems.
Not the first time Chuck and all his "sources" got something wrong. Happens a lot actually.
Saw Allen play last year in the USHL playoffs, DU is getting a solid player, Gwoz can get the most out of him.
What i like about this kid is it looks like he will be here for four years. We need more four year players who deliver during their junior and senioe years.
Who beat DU this year in the NCAA's?
North Chokota.
I Like how you say North Dakota choked and yet they beat DU 6-1... History shows UND is a better program. Only stating facts. Any hockey site will validate them.
I cant wait to see this guy Allen get crushed in REA.
Its not just this year. North Chokota chokes every year.
Five trips to the Frozen Four in the past seven years and one win to show for it.
At least when DU makes the Frozen Four they bring home the hardware.
And who can forget DU's three National Championship game victories over North Dakota in '58, '68 & '05.
Just a high winning % in the Frozen Four doesnt mean much..
I cant wait for the next few years as the UND vs DU rivalry is only going to get better. It's great for college hockey and for both programs. As long as Gwozdecky stays off the ice.. haha!
OK. We can agree on that. :-)
The rivalry is getting better and better.
Yes, I've always liked this rivalry. It's a rivalry of overall two great teams. I speak for alot of us up North. Its a rivalry we enjoy, not like a Gophers rivalry where hatred runs deep. I think this next year Du might have the edge. Sounds like we are gonna lose some key Juniors that arent returning...
Chokota will be rebuilding next year and will be lucky to finish in the upper half of the league. You hillbillies lose all of your scorers and likely several juniors.
Rather be a hillbilly than riding that Colorado Rainbow!
The team that's really going to free fall next season is Minnesota Duluth.
Mike Connolly just signed with San Jose, probably Jason Faulk is leaving early, plus Fontaine graduates. Ouch.
I call you goons North Da Goona rather then north Dachoka. Occassionally you don't choke but you always play cheap shot goon hockey.
It was good to see Duluth get that first one. It was good for our Conference. But yes, they are gonna struggle next year. Hopefully some players step up and they can compete at the top.
I could make alot of comments about UND playing cheap but lets not get into that... It fun to have some chatter here and there but it's all in good fun and competition.
Da Goona, Da Choka, Chokota, it's all the same. Find me a fan with a full set of teeth at the Ralph, and I'll bet you a hilbilly's trailer home that the fan is from out of town.
Aluuum is a sissy and can't spell
Well great job DU you beat a storied power in Western Michigan. That more than makes up for the choke job loss to RIT in 2010. That was classic LMAO HA HA HA
Looks like the sports writers at the Denver Post have as much class as DG has, ........zero. Malone signs with the Avs and the best they can put together is a headline and article about the hit on Jesse Martin.
Malone has more class and integrity than the whole sports staff at the Post combined.
Nice way to welcome a professional athelete to the Denver community.
I hope Malone tears it up in Colorado...
The Avs suck. They suck bad. Like suck butter from my ass bad...
I've been reading and commenting on this site for quite some time but never have i seen such an absurd comment as "Malone has class" .He is the consummate goon. A total dirty player who could care less about hurting some one.A full time jerk and you say "Malone has class". Are you drinking Gin straight out ofthe bottle?
This place has turned into maximum troll - absolutely pathetic...

The Pipeline Show on the Fans at the Frozen Four...
Guy Flaming from the Pipeline Show had this to say about the fans at last week's Frozen Four. Guy and Dean get it and they are both great hockey minds.
At the arena I saw people wearing sweaters or t-shirts or hats representing just about every NCAA team there is. All 3 games were complete sellouts with attendance surpassing the final game of the NHL regular season on Sunday (Dallas in town to play the Wild). The fans were loud, especially the North Dakota horde who dominated the stands during Thursday's semi-finals. The best way for Canadian fans to get a feel for Sioux Nation is to think of the CFL's Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the way their fans are everywhere - it's the same thing. I'm told that Denver's only guaranteed sell out of the year is when UND comes to town and it's because the rink is half full of green jerseys. Maybe it's the colour... but Saskatchewan fans are the same way.
Pay particular attention to the second to last sentence.
Nice DU, your fan base is real impressive.
who cares?? why are you dumb north chokota on her anyways, don't you have anything better to do with your life......SOOOOOOO pathetic
Take a good look at Garrett's picture, Sioux fans. That's the face that will be scoring many goals inside your beloved Ralph Engelstad arena. Remember this. Remember this, as you're stumbling out of The Ralph in a couple years, on a frigid winter evening, after drinking 7 beers, and after your team just got thier ass kicked by Denver.... you're gonna' remember this.....as you shake your head in amazement in the parking lot thinking, "Holy shit those guys are good"......remember!
First of all, the comment about Denver's only guaranteed sell-out being when ND comes to town is completely ridiculous. I'd say there's about a 98% chance his source on that is an ND fan who doesn't know anything about the Denver program.
Secondly, for the people on here saying ND is going to seriously struggle next year, or finish in the bottom half of the conference...do you really not remember what people were saying about DU last year? More likely than not ND will be in a pretty similar position.
No question they lose more firepower than DU does, but seriously, its North Dakota. When was the last time they finished in the bottom half of the WCHA.
Guy should know better.
Never has there been more than 1,000 Sioux fans in 6,000 seat Magness. Ever. And 85% of the Sioux fans who do show up at Magness choose to live in Denver, having escaped N.D.
And the Pios sellout for many, many schools in recent years other than UND.
Yawn............
Seth Edeen is a top notch goalie prospect that DU should look into
