(above) The report is that Florida has eight centers in their system and Drew might weigh his options is free agency in 2013 |
"Big news on the Shore front and not just because the big, two-way pivot dropped five points on Bemidji State the other night. There’s a strong possibility Shore will return to Denver for his senior year, then head for unrestricted free agency. Florida wanted him to come out after this season, but with brother Quentin joining Drew and Nick Shore in Denver next year, there’s new motivation to stick around college. Drafted 44th overall by Florida in 2009." Source: The Hockey News Hotlist

Pardon me, who is Ryan Kennedy?
Ryan Kennedy is a writer and editor at The Hockey News, and is a well-connected NHL columnist. He breaks lots of big stories.
Son of a Beach man. Give me a break. This is all we need right now. I don't give a crap if Drew will play next year or where. All I care about -and all he and all every one of you better care about right now, is getting to Tampa, getting to April 15th and winning a National Championship. We don't need these kinds of distractions right now. This team is fighting for thier lives, trying to get out of a hole. Focus on the next game.... not the next season PLEASE
I hear you Nincompoop--I'm hoping this kind of stuff doesn't distract Drew or the team. The focus should be on THIS year, as THIS YEAR's team is the one with high expectations and high potential. Next year, who knows? That said, we fans can talk about it, right? I don't know how much weight to give Ryan Kennedy's analysis. Seems like you could read a NEGATIVE prognosis into what he's saying--he says that Florida wants him to leave college after his junior year. Read it how you will, but this doesn't convince me at all that Drew will be coming back for his senior season.
Pretty cool to have all 3 on the ice next year. The U18 Team pre-season game was a great sneak preview. Hopefully Drew & 17 hang out another year!
Would love to see a Shore Triple next year.
I think this is a good thing for Drew and the team. Assuming he has told Florida he is staying, he won't be distracted by the anticipation of playing pro right after the season ends. His focus will solely be on playing for DU. He is a smart kid and has probably talked with other DUers who have left early or stayed all 4 years. It seems to have worked out fine for Rhett when he stayed all 4 years. Reports are that Rhett will have the chance to grab a top 6 spot on the Isles next season. Had he not been hurt earlier this season, he would have had a shot this year.
I'm pretty sure Cheverie regretted leaving early, would have preferred to stay at DU another year. Coach has talked numerous times about players that have regretted it, and that he thinks they far outnumber those who came out better for leaving early. Maybe the pull of his brothers, the convenience of free agency, plus being the captain outright will be enough to convince him to stay another year. Which would be great.
How great would it be to have Drew in the mix for one more season! Plus, in this day and age, with so many guys leaving early, it would be a breath of fresh air and maybe would help to set an example for others to follow. Some guys are ready to make the jump to the big stage, others clearly aren't.
Additionally, wouldn't Shore end up in the same situation as Bozak--able to negotiate with any team and essentially being able to choose where he plays? Seems ideal to me. No offense to any hockey fans in Miami.
