(above) Boston College Womens hoops coach Sylvia Crawley was let go after the players went to the AD and threatened to quit en masse |
Boston College Womens' basketball team just suffered through an abysmal 7-23 [2-14 ACC] season losing many games by 10 points or more. Head coach Sylvia Crawley, had to go, and it appears a players revolt ultimately cost her a job. The players reportedly went to the Athletic Director and said, "Either she goes or we go" [Sounds similar to a former DU lax coach's exit from Asbury Avenue].
Erik Johnson, who led DU the past four seasons, coached the Pioneers to consecutive 19-win seasons the past two, was named to replace Crawley at Boston College.
"This is a huge dream of mine, to return to Boston College. It really tugs at the heartstrings" Johnson told the Denver Post.
Johnson leaves DU a 72-52 record, including a 44-23 in the Sun Belt Conference, to help rebuild the Boston College program.

Congrats to Coach Johnson on the new gig. He obviously did a great job at DU. With only two Seniors leaving and several high end recruits waiting in the wings DU should be strong next season.
In the past several weeks DU has a had a former staffer named AD at St Cloud State and a coach move on to Boston College. Clearly DU has been doing some great things in the Athletic Department.
Erik Johnson gets a five year contract at BC.
