(above) It was a frustrating night for the Pioneers |
The University of Denver had not been swept in 60 straight WCHA series dating back to 2008. That came to an end on Saturday night as St. Cloud State University crushed DU 5-1 to complete the sweep.
Joey LaLeggia scoed DU's lone goal on a power play.
“Our defensemen struggled mightily to transition the puck up the ice and that’s been one of our strengths. St. Cloud took it away.”- DU Coach George Gwozdecky

Awful weekend for DU. Not much else to say. Maybe the bye week comes at a good time, but after that showing, I would want to get right back out there and play.
With 10 games left in the regular season, DU is 11th in the PW and tied for 3rd in the WCHA, but has played 2 more games than everyone but CC, Tech, and MSU, I believe. Tough road ahead with series against UMD, CC, UND and Minny.
Looks like one of those years. Not much to feel good at this point. Well, at least the basketball team is making a lot of noise.
Tough road ahead. Hope they rally!
Can't win big games if you can't get the puck out of your own zone. Some serious shot totals the last few games.
When this team is clicking they're hard to beat, just need to find that mojo again.
I wouldn't get too discouraged just yet.
Perfect timing for a bye week. This team has played its best hockey off the breaks. 9-1-0 start and 4-0-1 after XMAS.
For whatever reason they don't play well on Saturday nights. Tired, out of gas, nicked up? Who knows?
Huge weekends coming up against UMD, CC & UND. Season will hinge on next month of games.
Next three home games are already sold out. Just a few single tickets left for the CC game. Should be great atmosphere
