(above) No mention if DU will be serving Brunch to bleary eyed fans on Sunday morning |
The University of Denver ice hockey team's game on Sunday, March 10 at Magness Arena against Alaska Anchorage has been rescheduled for an 11:07 AM (MT) start time.
Compounding the problem, Sunday is the first day of Daylight Savings Time.
Compounding the problem, Sunday is the first day of Daylight Savings Time.
Sunday's game, which is the final contest of the regular season for both teams, was originally slated to begin at 12:07 p.m. (MT), but will now start an hour earlier at 11:07 a.m. (MT), to accommodate Alaska Anchorage's travel plans.

With daylight savings starting that day too, there won't be anyone at this game.
Daylight Savings?
Ouch.
Roll out of bed, a bloody mary or two, and then head to Magness. Sounds like a good plan to me.
Good news for DU on Sunday is that they could dictate who they play in the first round of the WCHA playoffs. Sunday is the last & only WCHA game on the schedule.
Realistically DU can finish anywhere between 4th & 7th place depending on what they do and what Mankato, Wisconsin & UNO do this weekend.
There is a crazy scenario where DU could win the tiebreaker with the Gophers and finish 3rd, but Minnesota would have to lose twice and DU would have to make up a 20 goal deficit.
My thoughts would be there is no way DU would want to face Wisconsin, so avoiding that match-up would be wise.
The starting time for UAA players will be 9 AM and with Daylight savings it will feel like 8 AM.
If we don't stomp the crap out of them on Sunday, there really is no hope.
I don't like how they already compromised by moving the game to Sunday; now I don't like how we're adjusting OUR schedule just so the opponent can make their flight. Screw them! Stay overnight or else pay up to charter a plane on your own terms. Are we going to let them use Denver's locker room so there's more room to spread out too? Want to take to ice the ice first? Want breakfast catered in on Sunday? What the hell is so special about Alaska Anchorage? I dunno people... I sense great danger with this series. Too easy to overlook these guys. I hope to God I'm wrong
DU and UAA have played some heated games in the past. UAA gas nothing to lose and DU has a lot to lose if the boys don't take the Seawolves seriously.
A Pio sweep is the desired result.
And why are they doing this game on a Sunday morning?
DU hoops is playing in Magness Saturday night, but that was decided after DU hockey released their schedule back in May. Maybe TV/Root Sports was a factor, because the Hoops game is televised and hockey isn't this weekend.
When DU released their official 2012-13 hockey schedule back on May 4th, the UAA game was scheduled to be played on Saturday night.

In the past UAA has stayed down in the lower 48 the week before the WCHA playoffs, because they've never had home ice, so the Sunday game wasn't that big a sacrifice.
I'm speculating here, but DU probably offered UAA cash to move the game to Sunday for an extra night's hotel expenses which cut down on their costs this week.
Heck, not only early start, but major snowstorm predicted Sat. night into Sunday ...
