Oh and Nick Shore signed with the Kings.
Let"s celebrate! But somebody take away Jim's keys first.
Dude. If you can honestly say that you have NEVER, EVER had more than a drink or two then driven, you have the right to talk smack about DUI/DWAI. Most people have just been lucky to not have gotten such a ticket....
Alcoholic clap clap clap clap clap.
What a great role model. Court ordered community service is the new standard.
Problem is he has multiple DWI's. Was never a candidate for Maine Job. Because of his convictions, he is not allowed to be a state employee.
Although I still don't agree with it, I am happy they've made this coaching change fairly quickly, right as the season ends; which hopefully has minimal effect on the current athletes as they leave campus for summer vacay. This could have been dragged out until August 20th or something like that. Atleast now everyone knows the deal and can prepare to move on. There will be a tomorrow.
Kiszla nails it:
"From college to the pros, the 43-year-old Montgomery has a sterling résumé as a player, coach and general manager. But, with all due respect, Montgomery has absolutely no business being coach of the Pioneers. This should still be George Gwozdecky's job."
Woody's a big Peg fan:
"Gwozdecky was the only college coach to win at least 20 gamesin each of the past dozen seasons and made perennial postseason appearances. His firing by DU's insolent Peg Bradley-Doppes was ridiculous, but the vice chancellor, in the manner of Greta Garbo, wants to be alone and never has the nerve to publicly explain her actions."

I hope the new coach has nothing but success. Kizla story was childish. It is now the post Gwoz era and lets win some titles.
I agree that George should not have been fired and would love to see him behind our bench next season but he does not come without blame on this mess. He contributed with some unfortunate decisions over the past few years.
Wow, this is really surprising. After all the talk about Appert and LaLonde and to a lesser extent Brown, Montgomery comes in at the last minute (at least that's my perception) and gets the offer. Appert withdrew, but I'm curious what happened with LaLonde and Brown. Needless to say, it's been a very interesting/frustrating/bizarre last few weeks for DU hockey. A coaching legend is canned, we lose three underclassmen to the pros, and the new hire seems to come out of nowhere.
Montgomery didn't seem to be on anyone's radar last week, at least among fans, but hopefully DU made the right choice. Only time will tell.
I agree with Stastny, in that Appert was my first choice. But we had a very good list of candidates, and any one of them would be good. Montgomery does have a very solid resume, good energy and he should be able to invigorate the progam. That said, I think he is fortunate to land the Denver job in gwoz's wake, and he should act like it. He needs to win over the DU community and Denver press, who know a lot about gwoz, and very little about him. Peg has made some great coaching choices and I trust her and Ron Grahame on this one. Time for a new era in DU hockey. The last one had some amazing memories, and maybe this one will, too. Go Pios!!!!
Yeah, Gwoz is to blame. All those drunk driving charges, his kids having to perform academically, his failure to reach a 20 win season, his failure to make the NCAA playoffs, his failure to win the big one, his failure to recruit players talented enough to play in the NHL or their country.
Gwoz is NOT to blame but to ignore some miscalculations on his part as contributing is simplistic thinking.
Fire the Dope.
Peg had hired fantastic coaches , has more ranked teams at DU than any time in history, has Top academic performances and no police issues.
She is nationally respectedl among other ADs as per her election to the NCAA leadership council.
If you think she is chiefly to blame for Gwoz getting fired, think again. The Denver media are too lazy to dig for the real story, which has more to do with the board than Peg.
Anon 2:50. Don't believe for a second that Peg is a scapegoat. She is the catalyst and igniter of it all. Everyone on here would be surprised at how little the board has to do with it. They hired her to be the director, they want her to do that job. That is not their job. Why else would they hire an athletic director? That is under HER. Phrase she has made good hires in the past, but this whole mess is a huge mistake and a huge red mark under her name. Not that I wish ill will to the Pios, but I hope SHE pays for this at some point.
I really don't take too much stock in what Stasny has to say right about now. There is plenty over there on Chopper Circle to keep him and his homies busy.
