"(Boone) is a polarizing figure that does not reflect the growing diversity of the DU community, but rather is an image that many women, persons of color, international students and faculty members find difficult to relate to as defining the pioneering spirit."

Looks like your own hoops team just shot you down, Chancellor.

I would submit that Boone and the basketball team have done more to bring students of color closer to the rest of DU than any program of "Inclusive Excellnece" ever could.

We ARE one DU. We treat everyone with respect, and we don't need any diversity police to tell us how to think or act.

As to the lacrosse team--I think they should just stop televising DU lacrosse games. Whether it's on ESPN or Comcast 105, seems like the last 3 or 4 times I have watched DU lacrosse on TV, they lay an egg and lose to a team they should beat. WHAT UP WITH THAT????

Yeah man; Dubuque just barely squeaked out of OT with a win the other night. Muskegeon came back in the 3rd and had the Fighting Saints pretty nervous, I'm sure. You can listen to all their games free online. There's a link on their website. I'll be following them to the end

That's about the only shot the basketball team made post season.

DU shot 46% in the post-season, and 48% for the regular season, which was 10th out of 347 D-I teams.

DU shot the ball just fine.

48% - no wonder they didn’t make it to the NCAA tournament. 46% - no wonder they crapped out in Vegas.

Scott has to get them to the big dance next year or he’ll be gone.

The top team in the NCAA shot 50% this year. What are you expecting?

Do you know anything about basketball?

I know that DU didn't make it to the NCAA tournament and they crapped out in Vegas. If the shooting % is spectacular, what is Scott doing wrong? Why aren’t they winning more games? You gotta admit they screwed the pooch this year. Or are you one of those people that don’t think tournament play matters? They SHOULD be ranked 90th even though they didn’t make it to the big dance and couldn’t even get top 8 in the N-I-T.

Wow. I'm not sure whether to laugh at the naivety of the "poor field goal percentage" poster or celebrate because we're holding our basketball team to higher standards. It's been a great few years in DU hoops, with more apparently on the way. Joe Scott fired? Pretty funny......

Gwoz geting fired ... just sad.

DU was picked for 3rd in the WAC by the coaches and ended up as a regular season co-champion, so I would call that exceeding expectations.

Additionally, DU won an NIT game, which no DU team had ever done before, making last year's DU team the best D-I team in DU's history by any objective measure. DU won 22 games and finished #55 out of 347 teams in the RPI nationally with the 8th youngest team in the country.

Yes, DU's league tourney performance against Texas State was not as great as some games other games they played this year, but the reality was DU was beaten because an opposing player, Joel Wright, who averaged 18 points per game had a crazy high 32 points against DU. In a game like basketball, one player having an amazing game can beat you, and that's what happened to DU, who had an an otherwise average game.

All in all, Joe Scott has done wonders with the DU program. We were #346 out of #347 when he came in six year ago. Now, we are #55 with 4 of 5 starters coming back, a deeper bench and a promising Xavier transfer coming in next year. DU should make it to the dance next year, assuming they stay healthy. The quality of athlete DU is getting now is light years from where the program was 5-6 years ago, and so is the quality of the product on the floor.

If you would have told me DU would be leading an ACC power like Maryland (who best Duke twice last year) on the Terps' home floor with 8 minutes to go in the NIT second round, I am very happy with where things are headed....

Take a look at everything Gwoz accomplished while he was at DU. Now look at Joe Scott’s failure to even make it to the big dance. Joe has to be worried. Maybe we should start a petition. Gather signatures to help keep Joe’s job. Think that will help?

Apples and Oranges.

The hockey program has had a long history of success. There are only 59 teams in D-I and perhaps 35 or 40 of them have the ability to compete for a D-I title. At many schools, hockey is as afterthought. DU should be top 16 every year.

Basketball has no real history of success at the D_I level at DU and DU must compete with 347 schools of which about 150-200 of them could contend, with many more of those 150-200 are large football schools with big enrollments and big budgets. Basketball is important for many of these schools. For DU to contend here is a much tougher achievement than it is in hockey.

And another thing, Gwoz' record was only a small reason why he was fired. The much larger reason was a protracted contract dispute.

Pears and bananas. Either get to the show or look for a new job.

Not many teams have back-to-back 22win seasons. This upcoming season should be their best. If you follow them closely, they are one of the best coached teams in the nation. Joe Scott is one of the finest coaches in the country and his system fits a mid-major program. If he leaves, it is likely to be HIS choice and our loss.

4:23, this isn't exactly to your point, but I've always had the feeling that basketball isn't any harder to compete in than hockey.

I've seen the argument several times that basketball has 347 teams (many of them big football schools), hockey only has 57, therefore basketball has to be tougher to compete in.

I don't think the following stat proves anything necessarily, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

- Since 1960, 24 different schools have won an NCAA basketball championship.

- Since 1960, 17 different schools have won an NCAA hockey championship.

Given that basketball has roughly 6 times the amount of teams competing, if the parity (i.e. competiveness) between basketball and hockey was comparable, I'd expect a much larger number of basketball teams to have won a title.

What this says to me is that both sports have their upper echelon of teams that are truly competing for championships year-in and year-out. Getting into this upper tier is very difficult (and Gwoz managed to bring us back). Then you have a very large middle-pack of teams where a lot of teams can beat a lot of other teams. Then, you have the bottom-feeders that are by-in-large stuck at the bottom.

The upper-tier in hockey (say 10-15 teams) is about as large as the upper-tier in basketball (say 20-25 teams). The middle-tier in basketball is much larger than hockey's. It seems Scott has gotten us from a bottom feeder to a middle-tier school. It's a big accomplishment. But, it's no greater (I would argue less impressive) than Gwoz getting DU from a lower/middle tier hockey program to a top tier program.

22 wins didn't get them to the NCAAs. CU made it, CSU made it, DU failed to make it. Time to find a coach that can get them there. Scott isn't the right guy for the job.

Just to add on to my comment at 8:43, if Scott got DU to the upper tier of college basketball (even a Gonzaga status) I would say that it is more impressive than Gwoz getting hockey into the upper tier.

Did Gonzaga make it to the NCAA tournament this year? Oh wait, they did. Nevermind.
