In a night full of promise with the student camp-out and the women's volleyball team sweeping South Dakota 3-0, the men's soccer team was stunned in front of a full house at CIBER Field. A breakaway goal by IUPUI in the second half and a missed penalty kick by the Pioneers led to a surprising 1-1 tie in overtime. The Pioneers controlled play but could not put the ball in the back of the net.

Stay positive DU soccer fans. In a sport like soccer where goals are tough to come by, ties happen often.
Yes, but soccer drew with a team that has zero wins this season.
Sometimes, you outshoot a team 27-4 and you tie them. That's the nature of sports.
Plenty of time to learn from this, and the importance of scoring goals when you have the chance to do it.
Exactly the kind of result that could indicate a flash in the pan nature to the top 10 ranking. Instead of solidifying their status against a winless opponent, they kind of lay an egg, miss a PK, only get one of 27 shots in the net. They could rebound and gather steam, but a tie against a winless team at home right after they step into the limelight of a top 10 ranking is not the way to go.
I think soccer is more prone to these kinds of results than other sports are, due to the almost always low-scoring nature of the game. You can also see this in hockey sometimes, when goalies stand on their heads.
Bottom line is that DU didn't lose. They are still undefeated on the season, and learned a good lesson about the importance of making chances count.
This kind of thing happens to every team, even the best ones.
