2005 DU Chancellor's Dinner

Thursday night I attended the Chancellor's Dinner at the Westin Hotel in downtown Denver. The swanky black tie affair was to honor and welcome DU's 17th Chancellor Robert D. Coombe. The event was attended by several hundred DU Alumni, Administrators and university supporters.
.
I had a funny coversation with former Chancellor Dwight Smith, who remembered the Bleacher Creatures very well. Other people I spoke to included DU uber fan Harold Beier, Dr. Terry Toy, our new Athletic Director Peg Bradley-Doppes, DU's Super Alumni Liason Rob Revette, and many others. As expected we had the "rowdiest" dinner table and many laughs about Boone's attempted comeback and stories from the Maine series.

The event was highlighted by Chancellor Coombe's speech were he outlined his vision for the university. He was warmly received by the crowd with a standing ovation before he delivered his opening remarks. He said that DU "could become an even better university" and he stressed integrity several times throughout his speech.

Chancellor Coombe joined the DU faculty in 1981 as an assistant professor of chemistry and has served as provost since 2001. In that capacity, he has been DU's chief academic officer and chief operating officer, focusing on building academic quality and intellectual intensity throughout the University's instructional and research communities.
