DU vs. Michigan Tech
This weekend against Michigan Tech is critical for DU. If the old mantra in the WCHA was "sweep at home & split on the road" the 2005-06 version has to be "sweep the lower division & hope to split with the top half." If any of the Top Five schools don't take care of business they will find themselves at home in March, just when the fun is starting.
This is meant as no disrespect to any particular programs, just the poor WCHA record in nonconference games coupled with the apparent balance between MN, WI, CC, UND & DU. Four WCHA teams in the Frozen Four seems like a distant memory and we don't seem to be hearing much talk about keeping the WCHA out of one of the Regionals anymore.
Over the past three seasons DU has thrown in some real "clunkers" against MTU, UAA & MSU off the top of my head. Michigan Tech played DU really tough four out of six times last season and earned a well deserved shutout victory. They will be motivated to do it after tying Minnesota-Duluth last weekend.
