DU's showdown with #1 ranked Wisconsin became more intriguing when Wisconsin goaltender Brian Elliott was injured by a teammate during the teams practice on Wednesday. No word yet on which player caused the injury, but he is sure to be the most popular player in the WCHA this morning. Elliott, the nation's winningest goaltender this season at 18-2-2, appeared to injure his left leg when a teammate slid into him during a drill. Reports out of Dairyland is that it might be a knee injury and not an ankle as earlier reported.
Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves did not immediately have information on the extent of Elliott's injury after Wednesday's practice, but told The Capital Times of Madison Thursday morning that the goaltender would be out for three to four weeks. No word if the Coach will continue to run his famous "Charge The Goaltender Drill" in Thurday's practice.
Elliott, a candidate for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, is the only goaltender who has seen time in NCAA games for the Badgers this season. Freshman Shane Connelly was a sieve letting in four goals against the High School All Star Team (aka USNDT) in Wisconsin's Dec. 16 exhibition game.
