Minnesota Sweeps DU

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota Golden used a three-goal first period towards a 5-1 win over the Denver Pioneers. With the win, Minnesota completes its two-game sweep of DU and moves two points ahead of second-place Wisconsin and three points ahead of third-place Denver in the battle for the MacNaughton Cup.

"We never recovered after Minnesota's fast start," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "Our guys battled in the final period, but it was too late. We're a resilient group and we'll bounce back."

Minnesota struck twice in the first 1 minute and 37 seconds of the game and it was essentially over from that point. Gabe Gauthier scored Denver's only goal.

I'm quite upset about this wknd. Not because we lost, but because of the way we lost. It's kind of ironic that a week after Gwoz said that the team finally looks interested in the season, they come out and play like they don't care.

DU cares, they just ran into a buzzsaw. Minnesota is a great team.

There weren't many postitives but I thought DU lined up very straight for the National Anthem.
