(Left) Defenseman John Lee says he will be coming to Denver in 2008
Various online hockey recruiting guides (USHR, Heisenberg & WCH) are reporting that Defenseman John Lee will attend the University of Denver. Lee is the first player to announce his intention of attending Denver in the Fall of 2008.
John Lee (6'2 185 lbs) is a "lanky" Defenseman who has a similiar build to his older brother Brian Lee, a Sophmore at UND this season. John attended Moorhead High School in Minnesota, but will spend this season, his Senior Year of high school and presumably next season, playing for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL.
Current DU Freshman Brian Gifford also attended Moorhead High School. Denver seems to be making inroads with in the recruiting of Minnesota bred hockey players.
This is an early verbal commitment for the Pioneers, so obviously the DU coaches regard him highly. John's older brother Brian was drafted with the ninth overall pick in the NHL Draft (Ottawa Senators). Brian Lee is an offensive minded defensman who dished out 23 assists for the Fighting Sioux last season. If John's game is similiar to his brother, DU fans might be seeing a taller version of former DU All-American Brent Skinner (6'1").
