College Hockey News is reporting that Minnesota senior goaltender Kellen Briggs has been suspended for three games due to an "unspecified rules violation." Briggs will sit out the Golden Gophers' Oct. 6 season-opening game against Maine and the Oct. 13-14 series against Wayne State (is it just me, or do the Gophers only suspend players if a crappy opponent is coming up on the schedule?).
Speculation over at Gopher Puck Live centers on Briggs not paying his bar tab over the "Blarney's Incident" and perhaps a "Duke Lacrosse Themed House Party." Questions remain whether Briggs will become the first back-to-back member of the All-Bad Boyz Team.
Is it too much to ask that Briggs pays his bar tab? Lucia is sending a powerful message to the team that mooching free drinks (allegedly), especially from your friends, is socially unacceptable. These are life lessons that these "kids" will carry for the rest of their lives. I for one say, "Bravo, Don. Bravo."
In a surprise development, Minnesota coach Don Lucia could not be reached for comment (Don should switch to Cingular, they have fewer dropped calls).
The suspension leaves sophomore Jeff "Long Island" Frazee as the most experienced goalie in the lineup. Frazee had a 2.36 goals against average in 12 games last season. Junior Brent Solei did not appear last season, spending most of the season at Blarney's.
