"He won't play tomorrow," said Dave Lewis. "I'm not going to talk much more than that."
GM Peter Chiarelli said he was surprised when he was informed of Kessel's condition. Chiarelli said Kessel is in the area, and the club has yet to determine whether he will be placed on injured reserve.
Kessel's teammates were mum on the reason for his absence, but all offered their support.
"He's a [19-year-old] kid," said Tim Thomas. "Any medical issues are tough, especially at that age. He's got a lot on his plate, being a first-round pick and spending his first year in the NHL. We have to offer our support and work to make him feel as good as possible."
Kessel appeared healthy in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils when he played 12:21 over 16 shifts. Kessel, who's been centering the fourth line recently, skated several shifts on the No. 1 line.

Sources say Kessel is currently at Mass. General Hospital and was due to undergo surgery.
Kessel is said to be in good spirits. He was the Bruins' number one pick and fifth overall in the NHL.
Testicular cancer usually occurs in young men and can be treated and often cured, according to the American Cancer Society.
Each year, about 8,000 men are diagnosed. This is one of the most curable forms of cancer.
A man's risk of getting this cancer in his lifetime is about one in 300, according to specialists.

CBS 4 in Boston is reporting that Phil has testicular cancer and will undergo an operation in Mass General.
Not so lucky for the great player. Hopefully he gets better and beats cancer. Good luck to him and his family.
