Prior Arrest May Send UND "Trickshot Specialist" To Jail
University of North Dakota hockey player Robbie Bina (left) had a typical summer. He worked out, lifted weights, prepared for the upcoming season and got arrested on July 15th for Driving While Intoxicated.
Now WDAZ in Grand Forks is reporting that Mr. Bina has been charged relating to a seperate incident at Judy's Tavern (the Official Bar of The UND Hockey Team) last Sunday night. The 24 year old Sioux Defenseman has been charged with escaping police custody.
Assistant Grand Forks City Prosecutor Kristi Pettit told WDAZ that Bina has been charged with a Class B Misdemeanor, when Bina opened the back door of a police car in an attempt to "spring" two of his team mates T.J. Oshie & Jonathan Toews.
Even without a conviction on this charge, Bina could be facing 10 days in jail because he's still on probation for the DUI charges over the summer. This might be an excellent opportunity for Bina to catch up on his homework and if he does well, UND Coach Dave Hakstol might consider sending other players to jail when they fall behind academically.
All three players will appear in Municipal Court on Feb. 10th.
