Skipping ahead to DU's 2008 recruiting class there are a few things to keep an eye on this offseason. The #1 priority will be to try and land one or two first-class defensemen. As we saw this year, they're hard to come by.DU will be graduating five players after next season (4 full scholarships): Blom, Mannino, May, Paukovich & Thomas. DU may have Nate Dewhurst arriving in 2008 or '09 and Jason Gregoire is supposed to be waiting in the wings.
DU may decide to hold off on recruiting a goaltender prospect until Cheverie shows up on campus and they can determine their needs. DU may need a stud who can carry the load or may recruit someone who can mature into the position. DU can probably find a suitable goaltender anytime in the next year.
From Heisenberg's List we see that CC (5 '08 recruits), Minnesota (7 '08 recruits), North Dakota (8 '08 recruits) & Wisconsin (5 '08 recruits) have already locked down their most of their 2008 recruiting classes. That certainly makes finding a diamond in the rough a little more difficult.
As long as Ruegsegger, Butler & any others don't bolt after next season (by no means a certainty) DU should be OK. By waiting to award scholarships, DU may go after late bloomers like they did this year with Tyler Bozak. Almost certainly it leads one to believe that DU will be concentrating its recruiting efforts in Canada where the recruits generally commit later than in the USHL or USNDP.

Here's a bombshell that you can take to the bank as fact. Jason Gregoire re nigged on his verbal and instead because of a pushy father has signed with North Dakota since it is closer to home. This from a reliable source is true as you will see in the comming days...

If the father was that pushy, why would he have allowed his son to sign with Denver in the first place?
First we miss out on Nash and now possibly not geeting Gregoire. I hope it is not true.
Did UND go after him when they found out that Toews signed with Chicago??
He is still listed on Heisenberg's site as going to DU. The one thing about next year's recruits is that 5 of the 10 recruits have yet to sign their letters of intenet including Gregoire, Cook, Nutini, Cunningham and Jackson.
There's only certain dates/periods where recruits can sign a letter of intent.
I don't believe that recruited walkons sign LOI's so that would explain Cook, Nutini & Cunningham.
Winnepeg to Grand Forks is only 145 mile commute if it was the deciding factor.
This has been the wierdest recruiting saga that I can remember.
Originally we heard it was between DU & UND and both schools wanted him to play another year in the USHL.
Then he committed to DU and we heard he was comming this Fall.
Then reports out of Lincoln said it was up to Jason, but that he might come in 2008.
Now this shocker.
The current signing period runs from 4/1/07 to 8/1/07. Players can still sign for next year.

At this point its just a RUMOR, however, its not implusable.
Gregoire hasn't signed a LOI with DU to the best of my knowledge, Winnepeg & Grand Forks are close together, it makes sense that Gregoire probably went home after the season in Lincoln & the T.J. Fast situation is similiar.
Take it for what it is...A rumor that hasn't been refuted by anyone associated with DU.
