A week after garnering national publicity for the suspension of four hockey players for wearing blackface during a team golf outing in September, Colorado College was named College Hockey News' Team Of The Week.
Senior captain Scott Thauwald, sophomores Andreas Vlassopoulos and Brian Connelly, and freshman Brett Wysopal were forced by the administration to apologize to the campus community, and meet with the local branch of the NAACP and Urban League. The players also must take diversity training courses at some point in the future (we're guessing the "classes" won't interfere with any major WCHA tilts this season).
Turns out that CC Hockey Coach Scotty Owens knew what he was doing, because after resting/suspending the players during some meaningless exhibition games, the Tigers swept the Gophers last weekend at home.
Obviously the staff at CHN didn't factor in team intolerance when passing out their awards.
