That huge sigh of relief emanating in Colorado Springs last night was Coach Montgomery.  The University of Denver finally didn't lose a game in overtime.

DU scored in the final two minutes of regulation after lifting goalie Sam Britan to knot the score at 1-1.  Joey LaLeggia tallied the lone Pioneer goal.

After suffering four 3-2 overtime losses to start the season, including two last weekend against Nebraska-Omaha, DU managed to "win" the game via a shootout.  Nationally & in regards to the Gold Pan, the game will count as a tie, but Denver picks up an extra point in the NCHC standings.

Former walk-on goalie Juho Olkinuora climbed an improbable ladder to become the University of Denver's No. 1 goalie, but Sunday he fell to the depths of athletic despair in what could be the Pioneers' season-ending loss. 

Olkinuora scored on himself midway through the third period in what turned out to be the game-winning goal in a 4-3 victory for rival Colorado College in the deciding Game 3 of the WCHA first-round playoff series at Magness Arena [read entire article].

Sophomore goalie Juho Olkinuora had 38 saves and five players scored for the University of Denver, as the Pioneers defeated Colorado College 5-3 on Friday night at Magness Arena.  The victory kept DU firmly ensconced in the middle of the projected NCAA field in the Pairwise Rankings.

DU Will Face Colorado College In WCHA Playoffs

Its fitting that the final WCHA games to ever be played in Colorado will pit Colorado College against Denver.  CC and DU will square off in the first round of the best-of-three WCHA playoffs beginning Friday in Denver.

The winner will advance to the WCHA Final Five in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The University of Denver hockey team scored three times in the last six minutes of regulation to force overtime on Saturday night at World Arena.  But its was Colorado College who scored with 10 seconds remaining in overtime to steal the victory.

The University of Denver secured the annual Gold Pan Trophy over rival Colorado College with a 1-1 tie on Friday night at sold out Magness Arena.  The tie handed the season series to DU with a insurmountable 2-0-1 record against CC.

Larkin Jacobson scored for DU and once again Juho Olkinuora was fantastic between the pipes.

The Pioneers will face the Tigers on Saturday night at the World Arena in Colorado Springs.

Colorado College To Give Away Glow Sticks

World Arena will be very intimidating on Saturday night. A glowstick baton giveaway sponsored by Larry Miller Toyota of Colorado Springs is on the agenda.

DU's White-Out Weekend Kicks Off Thursday Night

Everyone knows it's CC Week on campus and that means its White Out Weekend; one of the most action packed weekends of the year. All DU fans are encouraged to wear white.

For out of town Pioneer fans, all of the action on campus can be seen on Root Sports.

It all kicks off on Thursday night with a pre-game basketball party at Crimson and Gold Tavern [2017 S University Blvd], followed by DU vs Seattle University Hoops Game at 7 PM in Magness Arena. 

Friday night the Annual DU-CC Pre-game Tailgate hosted by the DU Grilling Society will be held on the South Side of Magness Arena. Retro White Out T-shirts will be for sale for $10 [while they last]. 

7:30 PM is puck drop for the DU vs CC "White Out" hockey game at Magness.

Saturday @ 4 PM will be another men's basketball game between DU vs. Idaho at Magness.  

Meanwhile many DU hockey zealots will head down to the Springs for the 7pm DU/CC game at World Arena.

DU Students Create Retro DU-CC Rivalry Shirts

This weekend DU students will be sporting retro "White Out" T-shirts.  The image design was originally featured on T-shirts & Sweatshirts worn in the student section by the 1980's Bleacher Creatures in the old DU Ice Arena.  

Two hundred shirts were produced and will be available starting today.  Students will be selling the shirts around campus this week.

If any shirts remain unsold, they will be available outside Magness Arena at the DU Grilling Society pregame BBQ.

CC Losing Streak Examined By Springs Columnist

In the past 47 games, CC has won just 17 times. That’s all. Last season ended with nine wins in the last 25. 

The Tigers are winless in their past seven, and last weekend’s 8-4 loss at Nebraska-Omaha ranks among the worst performances of the Owens era, which started in 1999.  This is a lost team wandering through a mind-numbingly awful season.

The immediate future does not look promising. The Tigers tangle with North Dakota this weekend in a deafening, hostile arena. North Dakota has scored at least four goals in four of its past five games. The Tigers have allowed 55 goals during their 12-game tumble [read entire article].

The DU Women's Golf Team lost a blue-chip recruit when Mia Landegren from Connecticut decommitted and signed a Letter of Intent with the University of Alabama.  Landergren committed to DU a year ago as a 16 year-old and won some major tournaments in the past year.  A huge loss to the program.
