Larkin Jacobson grew up in a hockey family.
His grandfather played college hockey.
His older brothers both play hockey. He played with brother Derek on the Janesville Jets in the North American Hockey League.
So,
when Larkin was recruited to play at the University of Denver, one of
the top collegiate hockey programs in the country, Jacobson moved
ever-closer to his dream of playing in the NHL.

“It was a good, road playoff-type game for us, and I thought we competed hard and won more puck battles. I liked our level of competition and effort tonight, and the only thing missing was a W. That was a really good goalie we were playing against who’s been unbelievable since Christmas.”The University of Denver secured the annual Gold Pan Trophy over rival Colorado College with a 1-1 tie on Friday night at sold out Magness Arena. The tie handed the season series to DU with a insurmountable 2-0-1 record against CC.

Larkin Jacobson scored for DU and once again Juho Olkinuora was fantastic between the pipes.

Denver 3 - Minnesota Duluth 0 FINAL
Juho Olkinuora recorded his fourth career shutout as the University of Denver rolled to a 3-0 victory over Minnesota-Duluth on Friday night.
Larkin Jacobson, Joey LaLeggia and Nolan Zajac scored for DU.

Jacobson [6'1 215 lbs.] had been used primarily as a checking forward at DU, but his first goal turned out to be huge. He is also the step-son of NHL Player Ruslan Fedontenko.
Cornell scored in the first minute and then DU goaltender Juho Olkinuora held them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Daniel Doremus opened the scoring for DU with just 45 seconds remaining in the first period.
DU remained at #9 in the Pairwise Rankings and will play WCHA leading Nebraska-Omaha next weekend at Magness Arena.

DU Senior David Carle was hired this week by the USHL Green Bay Gamblers according to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post.

Ruslan Fedotenko, the step-father of DU hockey player Larkin Jacobson was profiled today on NHL.com. Ruslan has won two Stanley Cups and played a key role in winning game seven for the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.

DU alum and NHL Hall of Famer Glenn Anderson won six Stanley Cup as a player with the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers..
DU star John MacMillan played on two Stanley Cup winning teams in Toronto in the early Sixties and has his name engraved on the Cup. MacMillan is the only DU player to ever win a National Championship at DU and a Stanley Cup. He won each twice.

Larkin Jacobson Is Looking Forward To DU

The NAHL’s Showcase Tournament attracts more than 200 college and professional scouts. The event offers scouts a first-hand look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent in North America.
Larkin Jacobson (6'2 200 lbs) made the most of it.
The Janesville Jets’ forward shined at the Showcase Tournament, playing well enough to earn a Division I scholarship offer from University of Denver, a powerhouse in the WCHA.
Jacobson, who is the reigning NAHL North Player of the Week, said the decision to sign with the Pioneers was an easy one.
“When I went out for my official visit to Denver, I really liked everything about the program and what it had to offer me,” Jacobson said. “I came home and talked about it with my family, and we all agreed that I didn’t need to consider going anywhere else.
“I’m excited about the opportunity because my goal all along was to play Division I. That’s why you work so hard and put all the extra time in.”
Denver coach George Gwozdecky and his staff were impressed with Jacobson’s size and skating skills. Jacobson is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, and a force in front of the net.
Jacobson ranks fourth in scoring this season for the Jets with 36 points. He has 14 goals and 22 assists for a Jets team that is second in the NAHL’s North Division.
Janesville coach Dane Litke said Jacobson has been an integral part of the team’s success.
“Larkin’s a good leader, and although he’s got a bright future ahead of him at Denver, I know he’s going to help this team go as far as it can before he’s done,” Litke said. “He has been battling an ankle injury the last couple weeks, but he has played through it and continues to contribute.
“Larkin has the skills to play Division I, and with his size, that’s a good combination. He just has to make sure he brings it every night.”
Now in his second season with the Jets, Jacobson is playing alongside his older brother, Derek. The Sioux City, Iowa natives get after it—both on and off the ice.
“It’s not really a competition between us, but we do push each other pretty hard,” Larkin said. “I’m never satisfied and I don’t like losing, and I know Derek feels the same way.
“But my experience in Janesville has been great, and I’m glad I could share it with my brother.”
Larkin insists that the Jets and Janesville have been a perfect fit.
“I know the city (Janesville) was down a little bit with the closing of the GM plant, and I feel like we’ve been able to bring it a little life,” Larkin said. “And our fans have been great. They show up at every home game, and their support means a lot to us.”
Larkin and the Jets have nine regular-season games left, including this weekend’s final home series against Port Huron (Mich.). Janesville is second in the NAHL North with 65 points, with Traverse City in third with 61, and Motor City and Michigan tied for fourth with 59. The top four teams in each division make the playoffs.
The Jets have won four of their last six games, but Larkin knows that in order to secure a playoff spot, the team has to continue to improve.
“We can’t be satisfied because there is always room for improvement,” Larkin said. “We just have to make sure that every part of our game is on. Offense, defense and our goaltending. If we can put those three together, we can make the playoffs and do well.”
Larkin Jacobson has a bright future ahead of him. He just wants to take care of some unfinished business in Janesville first.
Newest DU Hockey Fan Is NFL Hall Of Famer

The NFL Hall of Famer and 12 time Pro Bowler is the uncle of current player Jarrod Mermis and future recruit Dakota Mermis, who will enroll at DU in 2012.
On Saturday night McDaniel and his family were cheering on the Pioneers in Minneapolis where they reside. McDaniel played for the Minnesota Vikings for 11 seasons and is considered to be one of the greatest offensive linemen in NFL history.
Dakota Mermis is not the only member of DU's future recruiting classes with famous athletic relatives. Newest Recruit Larkin Jacobson Has NHL Ties

Larkin's step-father is two time Stanley Cup winning forward Ruslan Fedotenko, who currently plays for the NY Rangers.
Larkin is the first Jets player to sign with a WCHA team. Former Janesville , Wisconsin native Dan Olszewski is a freshman for the Pioneers this season after playing with the St. Louis Bandits of the NAHL for two seasons.
In 19 NAHL games this season, Larkin has scored seven goals and has seven assists for a total of 14 points. Larkin and the Jets next play on Wednesday, Nov. 24, when they host the Coulee Region Chill, with a 7 p.m. start at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.
“This is what our league and our organization is all about. Moving kids along and giving them the chance to play at the next level,” Jets coach Dane Litke. “Denver really liked Larkin’s size and work ethic. They compared him to a former player that is now getting looks by the NHL and started out in our league.
Larkin's older brother Derek is a linemate on the Jets. The brothers came to Janesville from the Pittsburgh Hornets program, where they had played together for the past three seasons.
The brothers’ transition has also been helped by the input of their stepfather, New York Rangers forward Ruslan Fedontenko.
“Ruslan has always told us to play as long as we want, and that he’ll support us on whatever we want to do,” Derek said. “If we have a question, he’s not afraid to tell it like it is.”
Added Litke: “I’m sure (Ruslan) has been a big influence on them. They’ve been around the National Hockey League, and there’s no better person to ask questions of than an NHL player. I know he helps them out whenever he gets a chance.”
Another advantage was training with Fedotenko during the summers.
“He really puts us to work,” Larkin said. “He got us in the best shape we’ve been in.”
The brothers’ 2009 summer also included a visit from someone every hockey fan is familiar: a guy named Stanley.
“We had the Stanley Cup for a day,” Derek said. “We took it to Door County (Wisconsin). Our family has a place we stay in the summer. We had some friends meet us up there to enjoy it with us.”
That perk came as a result of the Penguins’ Finals (Fedotenko also was a member of Tampa Bay’s Cup-winning team in 2004).
