DU Alum Matt Donovan Scores First NHL Goal
The New York Islanders were all smiles on Tuesday night, and perhaps nobody smiled wider than DU alum Matt Donovan. The rookie collected his first career NHL goal in a 6-1 rout of the Phoenix Coyotes at the Coliseum.
With the Islanders leading, 2-0, and on a power play in the second period, Donovan ripped a slap shot from the blue line that Phoenix goalie Mike Smith initially seemed to gobble up. A split-second later, the puck trickled through Smith and found its way past the goal line at 11:47, resulting in a delayed but genuine grin from the 23-year-old defenseman.
“I was on my way back to the bench for a change and I heard everyone celebrating and turned around and saw it was in,” Donovan said. “I still don’t think it’s really hit me. It’s a good feeling and I hope there’s more to come.”

Montgomery Heads To DU With 2nd USHL Title

It took some extra hockey, but the Dubuque Fighting Saints scored in overtime of Game Three to complete the sweep of the Clark Cup Final series over the Fargo Force to capture the championship. It is the second Clark Cup title in three seasons for the Dubuque Fighting Saints and for head coach Jim Montgomery who now leaves the USHL to take over as head coach at the University of Denver.

While tyranical forces move to find a replacement mascot on campus at the University of Denver, Boone went to Las Vegas to catch the WAC Tournament.
With less than seven minutes to play in the first half, Boone slipped unnoticed into Orleans Arena. Dancing down the aisle of the DU section, an usher unwittingly allowed Boone onto the floor, while the PA system played the theme to "Rocky." Boone shadow boxed near the Pioneer bench, while flustered DU staffers scrambled on contain the rouge mascot.
Yada, Yada, Yada...Boone was warned not to go near the floor again or arrests would be forthcoming. Mission Accomplished; Boone disappeared into the Las Vegas sunset. Soon thereafter the DU men's basketball team suffered a similar fate.

DU Alum Jason Zucker Injured By An Illegal Hit
Correy Perry on the Anaheim Ducks will face an afternoon phone hearing today with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan over his hit Tuesday night on the Minnesota Wild's Jason Zucker.
Zucker had tapped the puck behind the Ducks' net and was looking the other way when Perry hit him late. His shoulder appeared to make direct contact with Zucker's head.
Zucker was on the ice for about three minutes before he sat up with assistance.
He left the game and didn't return.
In the locker room after the game Zucker was seen chatting up teammates and signing autographs but was unavailable for comment.
Perry was assessed a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct at 4:21 of the second period.
