St. Cloud State University used relentless pressure to break down the University of Denver on Friday night at the National Hockey Center.  DU managerd to tie the game at 2-2 early in the third period, but three goals in the last half of the final period did in the Pioneers.

Zac Larraza and Nick Shore scored for DU.

New Hampshire 6 - DU 4 Final

The University of Denver chased off the leading goaltender in college hockey in less than 10 minutes of play and it looked like it "Black Friday" would soon be a forgotten memory.  Unfortunately the University of New Hampshire didn't get the memo and a four-goal third period brought heartache to Magness Arena on Saturday night.

Despite the losses to the east coast visitors, DU remained #3 in the Pairwise Rankings and firmly in first place in the WCHA.

From: Denver Post
by Adrian Dater

George Gwozdecky doesn't have fond memories of when his University of Denver hockey team last faced Michigan Tech in October.

"It wasn't pretty. They're a very good team," Gwozdecky said of the Huskies, DU's opponent Thursday at 1 PM MDT in the WCHA Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

DU suffered its worst loss of the season to the Huskies on Oct. 28, a 7-2 defeat in Houghton, Mich. The Pioneers managed a 2-2 tie the next night against the Huskies [read entire article].

Finns To The Left....Finns To The Right

(above) Freshman Juho Olkinuora recorded his second career shutout
Not sure if Jimmy Buffett was talking about the University of Denver's Finnish goaltender Juho Olkinuora, but Jusssi does have big white teeth and he's always circling around the goal mouth.  On Saturday night in Omaha, The Land Shark was stellar between the pipes and the Pioneers walked away with a 3-0 victory over UNO.

Shawn Ostrow, Jason Zucker and Drew Shore scored for DU. Scott Mayfield added two assists.

The Good News: With the victory the Pioneers clinched third place in the WCHA.

The Bad News: They fell a spot in the Pairwise to 13th.
