Chamber's Blog Covers Trotter's Absence

Mike Chambers dropped a bombshell tonight when he disclosed that Brock Trotter will be missing this weekend for the series with Minnesota State. The lowlights include the following...

The University of Denver hockey team will be without leading scorer Brock Trotter for undisclosed reasons during this weekend’s two-game series at Minnesota State, and no timetable has been announced for his return.

Trotter, who is not on the trip, leads the Pioneers with 13 goals, 18 assists and 31 points. He is the third-leading scorer in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and 11th nationally. DU coach George Gwozdecky declined to reveal why the sophomore winger is absent, and when he might return.

“It’s a decision that’s been made internally, and he will not be with us this weekend,” Gwozdecky said from Minnesota. “Each of our players have private lives and I hope people respect their privacy.” (

Well thats all fine and dandy, but DU is ranked fourth nationally, Trotter is the leading scorer and whatever he did will probably come out in the wash sooner than later.

Man, this is a shocker. Hard to figure if it's a suspension or a personal matter, although it sounds like the former, based on Gwoz's comments. Not a good time for this team to be without its leading scorer. Seems out of character for Trotter to do something that would hurt the team.....

This is an important weekend of hockey. DU needs to reclaim the momentum it had before the holidays. MSU is no slouch, but the Mavs are way down in the standings and they are a team the Pios need to beat to start this stretch run.

Sounds like a suspension to me.

The team will have to compensate, and it's times like these that a team's character is revealed.

Let's hope whatever Brock did to earn his way into Chateau Bow Wow is a this-weekend-only offense and that he learns from it. This is a team game, and players should be thinking about the team first and not themselves...

Jeez, this is a kick in the teeth. I don't like the vibe coming from this team right now. A poor weekend against UW, the trainwreck against AFA, and now this. Plus all of the bye weeks. The Pios need to grab their sacks and get it together.

Almost certainly this is a serious infraction of team rules. Looks like DU will make a comment about this next week about the situation and that sounds like the suspension will be longer than just this weekend.

Hopefully he's back for the North Dakota series.

A mystery with clues. I like it, but having difficulty tracking it down.

The elusive "brownstone" clue.

hey, we started the trend of players vanishing for undisclosed reasons! Quit being followers! ;)

Oh and I was hoping for a final battle for the McNaughton Cup when we play in March...what happened tonight??!!

So what the hell did he do?

Goon,

Its a mystery and we're supposed to "stay out of his private life" even when his private life screws up our weekend.

DU will have trouble with the Gophers -- with or without Trotter. Their season is in the process of going down the tubes. They still must play Dakota, the hottest team in the league, and they must play CC, the team they love to denigrate. It's too bad if DU and the WCHA lose Trotter, though. He is an exciting young player.
