The Gwinnett Daily News ran a nice article about DU Alum Kevin Doell's call up to the NHL. Its a phone call that every minor league hockey player hopes for.
For Doell "the call" happened when he was 28 years old.
We posted the article over in LetsGoDU2.

Great to hear about Doell and his persistence and patience paying off. Best of luck to him with the Thrashers.
There's so many good lessons from the Doell story.
He has his degree in hand and is ready to jump into the work force when his hockey career is over.
He worked his way up from the ECHL to AHL to NHL.
The Trashers are in first place so if they can keep winning and he can stick with the team he has a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.
Best of luck to Doell & the Trashers.
Kevin spent six years in the minor leagues, and I'm sure he probably got very used to the idea that the magic NHL phone call was never going to happen.
While I'm sure his heart skipped a few beats when the phone range, and I'll bet he had a nice little lump in his throat when he called his parents. And I'm sure his parents shed a few tears.
Great story. No matter what happens from here, he can say he was an NHL hockey player - living the backyard dream of almost every Canadian boy.
Bravo Kevin. Your DU fans salute you.
