DU Turns To U.S. Marines Corps To End Slump

From: Rocky Mountain News

After their trying week, the Pioneers gained inspiration with a guest speech Thursday from Marine Corps Lt. Col. Austin Renforth last Thursday.

Renforth, currently stationed at NORAD, has completed four tours of duty in Iraq and is a close friend of forward Rhett Rakhshani's family.

Renforth's message to the team? Essentially, "Triumph without adversity ain't worth (anything)."

"That really hit home with our guys," coach George Gwozdecky said. "He's a tremendous individual and it was very special for our team. He follows our team and is a big fan. He was great. I think sometimes the same things can be said, but sometimes it has more impact when somebody else says them."

According to The DU Clarion student newspaper the exact quote from the Lieutenant Colonel was "Triumph without adversity ain't worth shit."

I think thats the new motto for the team.
