"Hockey Day Minnesota" Will Come To Denver

Magness Arena seems like an unlikely location to host a celebration of Minnesota hockey, but that is what's on the docket for DU on Saturday night. Hockey Day Minnesota a made for TV extravaganza is a collaboration between FSN North and the Minnesota Wild. It will feature more than 16 hours of hockey TV coverage, including five games from across the state and other several features and vignettes. The schedule includes three high school hockey games, the Minnesota Wild game vs. the New York Islanders and the University of Minnesota game at the University of Denver.

Live game action begins at 9 AM (MST) with Eveleth High School taking on Lake of the Woods outdoors at Lake of the Woods’ Baudette Bay. The second game of the day features St. Thomas Academy and Hill Murray live from Xcel Energy Center at Noon (MST).

The third live broadcast will feature the NHL's Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders from Xcel Energy Center at 4 PM (MST). DU's Wade Dubielewicz is the backup goaltender for the Islanders.

The Wild game will be followed by the University of Minnesota at the DU at 7 PM (MST). FSN North’s regular Golden Gophers broadcast team of Frank Mazzocco (play-by-play) and Doug Woog (analyst) will call the game.

The fifth and final game will be the delayed broadcast of Blaine and Roseau high schools from Baudette Bay. FSN North, will also produce features and vignettes including unique and fun-filled hockey stories.

That's one thing I like about Minnesota... They treat hockey like a religion there. Hockey Day, that's a holiday I want to celebrate. What was great about last year though is both the Avs and Pios were taking on the Minnesota teams on the Hockey Day weekend, it was allot of fun to watch. Even ended up getting an mp3 version of the "State of Hockey" song the Wild plays.

Anyways hopefully DU gets things together, another sweep against Denver and I'd say our season is just about over.
