TrotterWatch™- DU To Announce Situation Today

Mike Chambers Blog reports that DU will likely announce Trotter's situation today.

Did DU Get Okposo'd?

Gregg Drinnan is reporting that Brock Trotter has signed with the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and is expected to report to the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs this week. A source has told him that Trotter signed with the Canadiens today.

Probably better for DU to announce it today so that team can focus on Minnesota tomorrow.
Vegas Odds On TrotterWatch™

1000-1 Trotter had a sprained ankle and missed the Mankato series. He'll dress tomorrow against the Gophers.

500-1 Trotter was "set up" by Colorado College goons but Denver police were able to solve the case

250-1 This was just a publicity stunt dreamed by DU's Marketing Department to drum up interest in the "Trotter For Hobey Campaign"

100-1 Turns out that another DU student with Manitoba plates has a slew of unpaid parking tickets

2-1 Academic "issues"

1-1 Going pro and the whole thing was a ruse by the Montreal Canadiens to throw Toronto off the scent

1-10 He's gone & DU ain't sayin why

C Brock Trotter has signed with the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and is expected to report to the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs this week. A source has told me that Trotter signed with the Canadiens today. . . . Trotter, 20, had been with the Denver University Pioneers. He was their leading scorer before not playing in two games last weekend. . . . His WHL rights belonged to the Kelowna Rockets.

If this is true, and who knows given all the crap that is being spread around, all I can say is that Trotter is a gutless wonder. What a gosh darned self centered little jerk.

DU29,

Give us a play by play when you get back. :-)

Just got back. There is a press conference set for 5:15 MT. Writers and TV media only. Security said I could not go into the room. Gwozdecky is speaking along with coaching staff and members of DU athletic program. But one security guard and DU employee said the news "is not good for DU hockey." He wouldn't give me any more details...My guess is Trotter is with Hamilton by next week.

At least we have Colborne, Novotny and Carle for next season..but sorry to be negative, but I'm not seeing a deep spring for DU hockey...

Makes sense. Hamilton is in 3rd place in their division and in the hunt for a playoff spot with plenty of time remaining in the season (defedning Calder Cup champs to boot). DU is in a tailspin. Would just be playing the season out if they don't sweep this weekend. Montreal probably offered him a good amount of $$$.

Anon 5:25--

The situation is more complicated.....there's more to it than just a player leaving college in the middle of the season to play pro hockey.

Trotter is not leaving DU because he wanted to go pro. He is leaving because he was kicked out of DU. DU just had to find a convenient time to announce that he was gone...such as when he signed with another team so that they wouldn't have to give the real reason of why he is no longer at DU.

"Not good for DU Hockey"

What can that mean? Perhaps Trotter and his "family advisor" stepped over the line? If so, could there be some potential NCAA involvement that has DU worried and making sure their ducks are lined up?

Did they just need some time to "self-report"?

At least one member of the media said "there has not been a press conference called and that it would be unlikely that DU would call a press conference in a situation like this."

So just like everything else involved in this crazy, wacked out, bizzaro situation there are conflicting reports, rumor and inuendo. :-)

Anybody else wonder why they would call a press conference during practice? or does the team not practice from 3-6 on the day before a game?

dggoddard said...

Whats the point of practicing if you don't have Brock Trotter? :-)

I still think it is all a ruse concocted by goddard solely to pump up traffic at this site.

So there was no press conference?? Who then is du29 and why concoct that BS??

unlike Okpo, who bailed on his teammates, sounds like BT was forced out by a stupid mistake (if the rumors are true). I still expect you guys to lay the smack down on those Goofers this weekend!

I am sure that Trotter's signing was the direct result of Trotter being expelled from school, and DU was kind enough to wait till he signed so they wouldn't have to humiliate him further by announcing his expulsion.

Trotter let a lot of people down, but I really do wish him well - he is an exciting player and his loss to the Pioneers leaves an enormous, gaping hole in a team that was struggling.

Have to agree with Swami. That scenario makes the most sense. He was suspended last weekend and for who knows how much longer. DU basically gave him an escape route that allowed him to leave without having to face the music over whatever infraction he committed in the press. Eventually whatever he did will come to light and d then people can judge whether this was a cover-up or not.

dg: OK you got me...

I had to come up with a plan that was so dastardly that it would frame Trotter and cause DU to kick him to the curb, but not so bad that it would cause Montreal not to sign him.

Then, I'd have to learn French in a week to convince the Canadiens to sign Trotter to keep the story alive.

Meanwhile I'd need to keep the "mainstream media" in the dark because if they broke the story, blog traffic at LetsGoDU would die on the vine.

Finally, I need to plant 100 different rumors around campus, Denver and various WCHA cities to keep the "story" alive.

If you knew me you'd know I'm not that smart. :-)
