YouTube of Maiani's game winning goal against UND
Anthony Maiani has scored back to back game winning goals playoff goals against Minnesota Duluth and North Dakota in the past week. Many probably don't know that he was the last player to commit to the University of Denver last summer when Geoff Paukovich signed a pro contract with the Edmonton Oilers.
The irony will probably not be lost on North Dakota fans who considered Paukovich to be Public Enemy Number One. Ironic also that Maiani stands 5'7 165 lbs. while Paukovich was 6'4 220 lbs.
So far this season he has chipped in with 7 goals and 6 assists, but none larger than the backhanded goal yesterday to clinch the Final 5 semifinal showdown against the Fighting Sioux.
Maiani is from Shelby Township, Michigan and played the last two seasons for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL. He is the youngest player in DU's 2007 Freshman Class at 19 years of age.
Maiani is descibed as a "nifty playmaker" who had 16 goals and 32 assists for the Musketeers in 2006-07. He was tied for the team lead in +/- with +20 (11th in the USHL tied with fellow DU Freshman Jesse Martin).
But perhaps the highest compliment he received after committing to the University of Denver game from a former youth coach who noted.

"As a coach who has coached Anthony in his earlier youth years you are not only getting a very skilled player but, getting one heck of a great kid. He will not do anything to jepordize Denver on or off the ice. In fact he is the type of player most coaches dream about. First in drills, first on the ice and last off the ice. I wish him nothing but the best of luck."
