50's Era Hockey Reporter Writes For LetsGoDU

If you've seen a DU Hockey Media Guide in recent seasons, you've probably read the articles about the 1958 and 1960 National Championship teams from the University of Denver. Dick Hilker was a young sportswriter for the Denver Post, covered the Pioneer hockey team from 1956-60 and wrote those articles.

Later he would go on to become an editor for the Denver Post and still writes opinion pieces for the paper some 50 years later.

When Mr. Hilker contacted LetsGoDU earlier this year, we begged him to write something about his years covering the Pioneers. We offered him our standard base salary of zero dollars with an opportunity to earn a T-shirt, and let him chew on the offer.

With the upcoming induction of the 1958 National Championship Team to the DU Athletics Hall of Fame and on the 50th Anniversary of their amazing run to the Championship, Mr. Hilker has written an article.
