Boone Draws "Comments" In Clarion & Elsewhere

(above) The Bring Back Boone Movement is sweeping the nation

Add the Clarion [DU's student newspaper] article on Boone's removal to the growing chorus of protests from readers. Alumni & students, who commented on the article, for the most part agreed that Boone would be a unifying force on campus.
For those of you keeping score at home, the citizens of Denver lined up solidly behind Boone on the Channel 9 message board. Over 100 comments were posted in a 48 hour period.
College hockey fans from around the nation backed the Boone logo
LetsGoDU readers agree that Boone decision was an outrage
Finally we had sources within DU saying that DU may have received as many as "400 protest letters, emails or phone calls."

This shows my age...I remember Woodstock West and there was a huge sit in outside of Chancellor Mitchell's office that lasted for a couple of days...are we too sophiticated now to do that??

Why waste the time, when we can bombard him with 10,000 emails. Then spend the rest of the afternoon surfing the internet. :-)

However, if you want to tell us some stories about the "sit in" & Chancellor Mitchell, I'd love to hear about it.

Woodstock West was interesting. Tents were pitched in the old arena parking lot. Most of the participants were non-DU students. I was on my way to my accounting class at the old Business building. A couple of the protesters said they were shutting the school down and that I could not go to class. I told them to kiss my grits, I was paid for 100% of my education and I was going to class. Anyway, they proceeded to beat the crap out of me and I landed in Denver General for a couple of days.

Thats an awesome story.

After I got out, I wanted to speak to Mitchell. He was an arrogant man and he very seldom spoke to the students. I thought the least the school could do was to pay my hopsital expenses. He never returned my calls. I almost said something to him when I received my diploma!

Chancellors "not returning calls."

Some things at DU haven't changed.

Really msbdu?? Wow.

I don't know how you DIDN'T say something to that jargon when you got your diploma.

But, I didn't say anything to Ritchie either for the various things that pissed me off at him; from Boone to his lame policies that led to getting me booted out of my fraternity.

Sometimes I think you can just be sooooo mad about stuff you just can't form the words properly.

Mitchell was a real first class jerk, makes Ritchie look like a choir boy. He ran the school in the ground. The student body hated him. He stayed in his office, never got out. You know in spite of all that these guys do, our first loyalty is to DU.

As long as I am telling stories, allow me one more. A bunch of us went down to a CC game being played at the Broadmoor. The only seats left were in the student section. Needless to say, by the end of the second period we were well lubricated. Anyway, DU was way ahead and we starting give the CC crowd a bad time. A fight broke out and I am glad to say DU won that two. We we are all thrown out of the game. We got in the parking lot and we just picked up the fight where we left off.

So you can imagine how much I want DU to beat those ladies from CC.

I just read over what I typed, so for all the errors, must be getting old!

Hmm ... that reminds me of a brawl that broke out at a Club hockey game that I went to down at CC.

Got sucker punched by a coked-up CC douche, which sucked ass; fortunately not before I got a couple shots in on someone. A couple of that loser's buddies got booted in the face a few times during the brawl. There were two DU club players who were suspended for that game so they were watching in the stands, and gladly joined in the chaos.

I would say that we won; mostly because they got kicked out by their own staff and we didn't. Plus, overall, their injuries were worse. I just spilt a good amount of blood, and was slightly concussed. lol

Ha, that brings back the memories...I always wish i had knocked out the piece of glass and pulled one of those fools on the ice...that arena is such a shit box.

You know they fight like they play hockey...remember they are "girly men"

We need to suit up some of you alums this weekend, to show our hockey players what old time DU-CC hockey looks like. You know like Eddie Shore used to play.

[after meeting the Hansons]
Reggie Dunlop: Oh you cheap son of a bitch. Are you crazy? Those guys are retards!

McGrath: I got a good deal on those boys. The scouts said they showed a lot of promise.

Reggie Dunlop: They brought their fuckin' TOYS with 'em!

McGrath: Well, I'd rather have em playin with their toys than playin with themselves

Reggie Dunlop: They're too dumb to play with themselves. Boy, every piece of garbage that comes into the market and you gotta buy it!

McGrath: Reg, Reg, that reminds me. I was coachin' in Omaha in 1948 and Eddie Shore sends me this guy who was a terrible masturbator, you know, couldn't control himself. Why, he would get deliberate penalties so he could get over in the penalty box all by himself and damned if he wouldn't... you know...

lmao DG ... go slap shot.

If Paul Newman were still alive, I'd like to think he'd have Coombe's legs broke.

I'm wearing my "cc sucks" shirt to the game this week. It's got the Denver Boone on it too. I wish I still had my cc sucks boxer shorts. In the 80s I used to wear them with my ripped jeans and you could see the words, cc sucks, on my rear end!

I don't have memories of any sit ins, but the 80s were filled with many du games in the south stands where students could drink 3.2 beer and it was encouraged! Bathroom lines were at least 30 minute waits during the periods, so sorority friends and fraternity friends would double up on beer for those in line.

CC sucks would be chanted all evening long. Gee R people going to be asked to leave this week if they're screaming "sucks" as it might offend someone?
