DU Pep Band Will Play In "Boonetown" on Saturday

DU's Pep Band will play at Denver's hockey game on Saturday night. They will also be making semi-regular appearances at Denver hockey games this Winter.

Let's hope that the band's presence continues to fuel the energy in Magness Arena and inspires our reinvigorated Student Section to new levels.

The pep band will appear at 11 games this season (Full schedule below).

October 25 - Ohio State (HC)
October 31 - Colorado College
November 8 - Minnesota-Duluth
November 21 - Minnesota
November 29 - Air Force
January 2 - Holy Cross
January 30 - Alaska Anchorage
February 28 - St. Cloud
March 7 - Colorado College
March 13 - WCHA Playoffs

Sources have confirmed that University of Denver will NOT instruct television cameramen covering Pioneer hockey games to avoid students, alumni and fans wearing Boone shirts or signs. So wear your shirts and make your signs and your mug may just appear on Fox College Sports on Friday night and Pioneer Vision on Saturday night.

Correction - FSNRM and FCS Pacific will be televising Friday's game and Pioneer Vision will be webcasting Saturday's game.

As someone who grew up on Badger hockey and graduated from Notre Dame, and just moved to Denver, I couldn't be more excited about actually having a band at DU games. The two games I went to this season both felt like NHL wanna be games instead of college hockey. Neither did justice to the fine DU team (which kicked in the teeth of my two teams) or the beautiful building they play in. If I go to another game later in the season, I'm definitely going to time it for one the band is playing at!

Thanks for the correction, I've updated it.

As we've learned from Boonegate this week, we can fix things at DU but only through action.

As soon as we resolve the Boone issue, we'll work on other parts of the "fan experience" at Magness that needs tightening up.

I think the band can be great. Lets support them as much as we can.

Bands are a huge differentiator between college sports and minor league/pro atmospheres.

The band is still small and just learning to work hockey games, and DU is also working on better scripting and playing opportunities to make sure they get the opportunity to play.

I thought they were much better by the third period in the Wisconsin game, and it was cool to see the students supporting the band as the game went on.

For you old timers out there (like myself) remember when the band played in a stand above the arena. It was great watching them pass the liquid refreshments during the game, they had to keep warm!!!

the band lacks talent, BUT their presence definitely helps invigorate the student section. Some of them are the most passionate fans I know, and many of them show up to games they aren't even playing at. The student section prob wouldn't look as good without them. If only they could play a little better, and play better songs, and stop when the puck is in play. Better they are there than not. Keep it up DU!

MSB,

Very cool avatar. Nicely done. :-)

Good to see constructive criticism about the band as well as praise. Anything we can do to create more positive energy in Boonetown should be encouraged and rewarded.
