"Matt Carle is a good young defenseman and we are thrilled to add a player with his abilities to our roster," said Holmgren in making the announcement. "He will add skill and speed to our lineup and should fit in great with our team."
"I also would like to thank Steve Eminger and Steve Downie for their professionalism as players here and we wish them nothing but the best in the future."

I'm guessing that this move was driven by finances. Carle's contract is massive.
Philly was also in desparate need of of NHL defensemen due to injuries. Tampa gets to shed a fairly sizable contract and Philly gets a d-man.
Carle logged a lot of minutes, blocked 4 shots and picked up third star of the game in debut.
Bummer that he went to Philly though, sorry Matt, but I just can't give you any love in the orange and black. Lets go Rangers! Also, Damien Saturday night was a blast. Owe you a bunch of beers next time your in town.
