When Coach Gwozdecky benched four regulars Saturday, one of the players he turned to in hopes of finding a spark was junior forward Brandon Vossberg.

Vossberg appeared in 60 games during his first two seasons at DU, but with the addition of freshmen forwards Luke Salazar, Joe Colborne and Nate Dewhurst, he has struggled for playing time this season.

Vossberg's appearance Saturday was only his second this season, but he provided a short- handed goal and finished with a plus-2 rating.

"Short-handed, I didn't even know I had that in me," Vossberg said. "It has been (frustrating), but we have a great team here. Any opportunity I have, that's great."

Vossberg had a great game. Aside from the shortie, he skated hard, played physical, and knocked Stoa on his can. Sometimes I cringe when 4th line players are on the ice--you just hope they can play a little and aren't a complete liability. Vossberg was a huge asset on Sat. I hope he gets some more minutes in the future.

I wish Colbourne would take notes on how Vossberg played. In other words, it's time for him to get physical instead of trying to avoid contact. He better get used to it here before he gets to the NHL.
