News & Notes From Around Boone Nation

2009 DU recruit Matt Donovan has been named to play in the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game on Wednesday, February 4 in Sioux Falls.
"Donovan, 18, ranks second among USHL defensemen in goals (9) and points (22) and is tied for fifth among blue liners in assists (13). The Edmond, Oklahoma, product was named to the 2007-08 USHL All-Rookie Team. Donovan was selected by the New York Islanders in the fourth round of last May’s National Hockey League Entry Draft with the ninety-sixth overall pick."

Former DU goaltender Wade Dubielewicz has just signed a contract with the New York Islanders.
"The Islanders have agreed to terms with goaltender Wade Dubielewicz on a one-way NHL contract for the remainder of the 2008-09 season. Dubielewicz must first secure his formal release from Ak Bars Kazan of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia where he began the season and clear NHL waivers before being eligible to play for the Islanders."

DU fans heading up to Grand Forks next weekend are advised not to wear their Boonetown shirts into Grand Forks bars. This Minnesota Gopher fan was assaulted in a bar fight.

Perhaps the University of Denver could send their "Diversity Action Team" up to Grand Forks to mediate bar fights.

I have no love for the Minnesota program. And can't freaking stand Don Lucia. But the Minnestoa fans are really pretty good and usually respectful fo other teams fans (except North Dakota, but that's a given).

Sioux fans on the other hand are nuts. they seem pleasant when they are neutral site games but we all know they are crazy and it's because Sioux hockey is all they have up there and they are defensive about it.

Sioux fans need a girlfriend.

Probably hiked north and threw them in the wood chipper.

Sioux fans are just as bad as CC fans if not worse.

The Fighting D-Bags have no soul. That goes for players and fans of that skid mark school in the NCAA. BTW I like the idea sending up "Diversity Action Team" up there.

Also CC fans aren’t as bad, some I can get along with but for the most part... they just have a lot of mental issues.

CC fans are pretty nice. I've sat among them. They are very knowledgable about the game and very devoted to their team. but they do have mental issues with CC inability to win it all. The biggest problem with the World Arena are CC students. They're annoying and ignorant of the games and they show up drunk (though I can say they are much different froma number o Du students who are the same way). And once they leave school they don't give a didly crap about the program. CC program is more supported by the citizens of Colorado Springs. I think that's why you don't see the senseless violence between DU and CC like with the prairie turds and the road kill.

Sioux fans aren't all bad...Went up there with Pioneer Phanatic last year and we went everywhere wearing our DU gear. (games, bars, frat house). Almost all the Sioux were friendly and more than happy to party with us Pioneers.

It was my impression that the Sioux fans in Grand Forks were much nicer and fun to be around than the Sioux fans in Denver.

I'd imagine the Gopher fans don't get as warm as a welcome though...

Take a look at the size of CC. The school is extremely small in population. They depend on the World Arena and parents, locals, etc. to come to their games.

According to Wikipedia, CC has a total of 2,011 students. That's it. Size of high schools.
