Not content with dropping "F-Bombs" during hockey games, a group of University of North Dakota students are hoping a bill introduced to the state House of Representatives will make it legal to pack heat on campus.
State law currently prohibits those with concealed weapons permits from toting firearms at colleges, but Students for Concealed Carry on Campus wants that to change.
“History has shown us that gun-free zones basically mean defense-free zones,” sophomore Tony Bowers said Wednesday as he manned the group’s table at the Memorial Union. “By allowing this bill to go through, you’re basically taking an extra step to allow us to defend ourselves in the event something should happen.” [LetsGoDU: A coach walking out on the ice?]

If the bill becomes law, licensed concealed weapons, which include firearms and various other dangerous weapons, would be allowed at public areas and gatherings such as college campuses, sporting events, churches, political rallies, concerts, parks and public buildings. However, the prohibition on concealed weapons in elementary, middle and high schools would stay intact.
On hearing about the proposed legislation, 24-year-old law student Laura Barnett had reservations.
“You’d be allowed to have a concealed weapon at the Hyslop or Ralph Englestadt Arena?” she asked. “That’s a little scary. That makes me think school shooting.” [read rest of article]

Oh, now this is classic!!! I thought Sioux fans shouting "Sioux" at the end of the anthem was annoying/disturbing. This just takes the cake. Note to self - scratch the Ralph as a venue to visit in the future. Another reason to remain anonymous on these threads.
OMG, say it ain't so. Anderson, had better wear body armour.
Please get your information right before you apply your "give peace a chance" information. I do, however, realize this is a blog so you do not have to seek the whole truth. Since alcohol is sold at the REA the legislation would prohibit firearms in the arena. Even the Dasher Dancer would have nothing to worry about. you should probably focus on the Seawolves rather than the Fighting Sioux.
This is a blog...the team can worry about the seawolves
The article came straight out of the Grand Forks Herald. OK, maybe the GF Herald isn't a real "newspaper," more like neighborhood daily with big typeface so that the few locals who can read, have a source of information.
Sure I added a few snappy one-liners and inflammatory comments, 'cause that's how I roll.
All comments about the "Ralph" are in the Herald.
I do love the humor of this blog even if the information stretches the truth. You call the folks cheering on the Sioux in REA "Hillbillies", but you are advocating for Boone who is a true hillbilly mascot. If I am not mistaken, the real Boone was also somewhat of a gun advocate.
Guns don't kill people, Hillbillies kill people.
I agree Boone is a Hillbillie. :-)
No worries... CCW permits require passing a written test, ruling out most of the UND student body, and passing a background check, ruling out most of the hockey team due to their criminal histories.
Coming from a state known for very public incidents involving guns. Doesn't the state of Minnesota have a Conceal/Carry laws? Be careful in St. Cloud, Duluth, Mankato, and Minneapolis. Long live the Second Amendment!
/Slapping forehead over stupidity
First people in North Dakota marry their cousins and now this?? When will it end?
Once the guns come out during a game and the Sioux fans go nuts on themselves.
Game over.
Up until this moment, I did have a small amount of respect for Colorado natives. Now, however, it is all but gone. If the DU fans who post on this blog are an example of the intelligence level of the average person in CO, then you have bigger problems than worrying about who North Dakotans are marrying. You are idiots.
Brian S....the posters on this blog have a higher IQ combined than the entire state of North Dakota, homeboy. And no one down here cares what you think. Quit your bitching and resume playing tonsil hockey with your cousin.
dggod
Your right the GF Herald isn't a real newspaper. At least it will be around longer than that certain publication in Denver.
Also the person that said to scratch the Ralph as a venue to visit. Your missing out on the best hockey venue in the world. SSSIIIIOOOOOUUUUUXX!!!!!
And, for all of you burning that region. Watch out your star player Tyler's hometown is about 200 miles from Grand Forks. Just across the border. Must be all that Cousin Marrying.
