VINDICATED! WCHA Refuses To Suspend Gwoz

(above) The WCHA refused to take further disciplinary action against Coach Gwozdecky for his stroll across the ice on Saturday night

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today endorsed the serious tone taken by the University of Denver and acknowledgement of an issue of unsportsmanlike conduct involving head coach George Gwozdecky in a game on Jan. 24 against the University of North Dakota.

"The Association is pleased the University of Denver echoes the WCHA's concerns regarding unsportsmanlike conduct," said Bruce M. McLeod, WCHA commissioner. "We appreciate the rapid response the University took in addressing the issue that occurred on January 24 and now consider this matter closed."

McLeod is a joke. Gwoz made a fool out of himself and should pay for it. The DU community should be ashamed that their AD didn't step up and sit Gwoz to make a point.

Worst of all, the WCHA officials suck, and their is no end to the mediocrity in site. How do we contact McLead to tell him he sucks, and let him know that his officials suck too...

The DU Athletic Department issued a bland yada, yada, yada Statement as part of the "deal" to spring Gwozdecky loose.

“We have discussed the incident with George, and he understands that his behavior was unacceptable,” DU Senior Associate Director of Athletics Ron Grahame said. “George’s action were very much out of character. We respect the integrity of not only the University of Denver, but the Western Collegiate Hockey Association as well.”

It still remains to be seen if Chancellor Coombe will line up some "Diversity Workshops" for Gwozdecky to attend in the offseason. Referees are people too.

Siouxfanatic- please, get all of your buddies from different teams and walks of life to email g.shepherd@mailstation.net (or is it .com? not sure, one of the 2). If anything, it will annoy him. Be warned though, he can't spell, has terrible grammar, and can't use rhetoric, not even against little league umpires. Our plight right now is in vain.

I sense some incoming porn e-mails to that address...

This report made on the DU athletic site is total BS. What does Gwoz have to be ashamed of? He stood up for his team so that none of them would get injured or even seriously hurt. If it was any coach; including the UND coach, that did this for his players I would respect him for that.

Is that all DU can do these days? Spew a bunch of BS to the public. Gwoz did what he thought was the best thing for the team and ya know... it was. He stood up for his boys and his actions fired up a team that desperately needed it. Besides we all know Anderson is the type of ref who will sit back and let ND do whatever they want to our boys. Who remembers that spear to the groin to Pock? Nothing done, Gwoz got pissed and Anderson sends him off. By far that guy needs to get fired!

I salute and praise Gwoz for his actions!

It is amazing how frequent these events always have a blatant odor of the Sioux about them. Their program seems to not only condone, but promote cheap, and downright unsportsmanlike conduct and actions on the ice--both before, during and after the game. In both of the last two series against Minnesota, there have been out-and-out premeditated attacks on players with sticks or bare fists during the course of play. Two immediately after a face-offs, (one of which was a blind-sided hit) and one during the handshake line at the end of the game. Not to mention obscene gestures coming from their head coach. It will only be a matter of time before these cheapshots seriously injure a player. Maybe then the WCHA will take some action.

Gopher Fan, I think you cut to the root of the problem. I think the ND boyz have been watching Slap Shot just one too many times. You are correct that the character of the team starts with the coach and ND doesn't have the best role model.

As I said before, Anderson lost control of the game Friday night and that spilled over into Saturday. I shutter everytime I see him on the ice.

Had this action not taken place against the Sioux, their fan base would be the FIRST to jump on board with Gwoz's actions. Most complain that the refs suck every week but when someone gets mad and does something about it at their game then it's a whole different story.

Why WOULD the WCHA suspend Gwoz? It's really none of their business. I see it as an internal affair between the University and a Coach. They didn't suspend Hak for flipping the bird or Jutting for fighting with refs after the game...so why would Gwoz get suspended? Of course, UND fans want that yet they mad the exact argument AGAINST the WCHA butting in last year when Hak flipped the bird.

Overall, I don't think Gwoz went about it the right way...but the end result is still positive. The WCHA is finally going to look a little more at reffing (well, allegedly).

I think DU did the appropriate thing by issuing the statement to make some people happy and now it can be laid to rest. Plus, it's just a statement...they didn't suspend him, correct? I don't think I've seen anything about suspension.

Gopherfan- AMEN!! The Sioux are always the common denominator in these issues. 2 issues with DU, the Bucky slashing/Hak wanting to fight Eaves on the ice, the finger incident, the Gopher/UND hand shake fight....need I go on?

I'm not saying my team (or any other) is perfect but really...I think UND should ponder why THEY are always in the scrum of it all.

Do you think Sioux fans would be calling for Hakstol's suspension had he been the one to take the Gwoz walk?

Only in North Dakota...I like what the announcer says in the last video. "This is not college hockey."
