News & Notes From Around Pioneer Nation

University of Denver sophomore goaltender Marc Cheverie and freshman defenseman Patrick Wiercioch were honored by the WCHA for their efforts in the Pioneers’ road sweep last weekend at Wisconsin. Cheverie earns his third defensive player of the week honor, while Wiercioch nets his second rookie of the week accolade. [read rest of article]

DU recruit Matt Donovan (15g-21a-36pts) is having a sensational season for Cedar Rapids in the USHL. Donovan saw his six game point scoring streak (3-5-8) end last Saturday night against Chicago but remains the league leader among defensemen in goals and points. Having already set a club record for most goals in one season by a defenseman, Donovan is now closing in on the team record for points by a defenseman set by Shane Lovdahl, who totaled 39 in 2004-05.

St. Cloud State will be without the services of two regular defensemen this weekend against DU. The Huskies leave Thursday morning, snow permitting, for Denver. Two players who won't be on the flight will be defensemen Sam Zabkowicz and Nic Rioux. Zabkowicz, who is still suffering the effects of a concussion suffered Feb. 7 at Alaska Anchorage, had hoped to return this weekend against the fifth-ranked Pioneers. And Rioux, who practiced on Monday at the National Hockey Center but missed workouts Tuesday and Wednesday at the Municipal Athletic Complex, suddenly began experiencing pain from an infection that settled in his left elbow. The complication was unexpected because Rioux had not been cut or otherwise injured on his arm before it began to swell. [read rest of article]

You know what I was just thinking about? When we win this "Bring Back Boone" effort, maybe we can get our man on the DU alumni license plates.

Let's face it, the current CC alumni plates are much cooler than ours. But if we had Boone smiling out to the world from our bumpers...mmm-boy! World peace would not be far off!

Don't say that CC alumni plates a cooler. That Tiger shield is butt ugly. I wouldn't put that on my car

I'll wreck & trash my car before I desecrate it by putting that God forsaken emblem on my car.

I do need to get a DU license plate though... be better with Boone.

Any word on Russ. this week?

Great idea on the license plates. I'll add it to my laundry list of things to talk about with the Alumni Development Office and AD when we get the mascot completed.

Whether Boone is brought back officially or not you'd have to think that they could still use the image in as "throwback logo."

And what would be better way of showing the Alumni's support of Boone than selling several thousand license plates and all the revenue that it would create for DU.

I would sell my soul for a Boone license plate.

Also, I saw St. Cloud practicing in Magness tonight. They looked like they had a lot of hustle in them. Anybody worried?

St. Cloud defeated DU twice earlier in the season. Just like DU seems to have Wisconsin's number, the Huskies may match us well with us.

DU could easily come out flat on Friday after a huge emotional weekend against the Badgers. Factor in the Ruegsegger situation and there's plenty to worry about.

On the otherhand, DU has so much to play for this weekend. First place, the MacNaughton Trophy, a #1 seed in the WCHA playoffs and NCAA Regionals.

I see two high scoing games this weekend 6-4, 5-3 type scores.
