"I realize this thing is a lot bigger than the person. It's not about the person behind the mask, it's about the rich history and tradition at the University of Denver and more specifically with pre-Ruckus mascots. I would be honored if I could take part in bringing back this great tradition. Thanks again for selecting me as the new school mascot, I can't tell you how excited I am."Scott Fuson DU '10
The alumni donors are proud to announce that University of Denver student Scott Fuson has been selected to become the Unofficial 2009 Pioneer Mascot.
Scott is a Junior at DU and is a Pioneer in every sense of the word. He studied abroad in Seville, Spain last year and has been a DU hockey season ticket holder. He plays basketball, can ice skate and is great with kids.
Scott will be attending the Raymond Mascot Boot Camp from March 27-29 at Kutztown State University in Pennsylvania. The camp is run by one of the most famous mascots in sports Dave Raymond, who developed the Philly Phanatic 30 years ago. The seminars will guide Scott into developing a brand character for our Mascot.
After Scott returns to DU he will hold a clinic for interested DU students on what he learned at the camp and help us identify and groom future mascots.
Two weeks after the camp, Scott will fly to Washington D.C. to unveil our mascot at the Lincoln Memorial on April 9th. DU Alum Harold Beier (DU '47) will serve as Honorary Marshall for the event.
After the ceremony, Scott will be driven to the Verizon Center in Washington to meet and greet fans from all over the college hockey universe. The Frozen Four Semifinals will be Scott's first opportunity to interact with fans in a college hockey environment.
If DU does not make the Frozen Four, Scott will fly back to Denver on Friday and introduce the mascot at the DU Women's Tennis match against Northern Colorado on April 11th and then attend DU's Men's Lacrosse game against Notre Dame at Invesco Field at 1:30 PM.
All this would not be possible without our alumni donors. We can't thank you enough.

I know Him!!! I know him!!! he is so cool
The next step is to build a team around Scott that will make the mascot a superstar on campus.
Do you have a talent that we could utilize to help this project kick-ass? Photographers, Videographers, Video editing, sign making, security, marketing, skits, theater experience, fundraising, cheerleading, music, you name it we need it.
Email Scott Fuson (DU '10) or Matt Bick ('12) at DU and we'll add you to the team.
if so, my email is scott.fuson@du.edu
Great work Damien. Scott will be a worthy addition to the team. :) Looking forward to catching up this weekend.
Thanks for all of the support from the alumni! It means a lot to the current students.
Wow, DG and his crew have made giant steps towards bringing Boone back...thanks for all of your efforts.
I`m very glad to see pro-active steps being taken to restore a sadly missed tradition. Also, it will be great for kids to interact with something besides the goofy scoreboard games at Magness. Great work, Damien and all the others involved in this project!
DG has been championing the Boone effort tirelessly this whole year after the Chancellor announced that Boone would not be returning as the school's official mascot. He has always wanted Boone back and thought that he would return officially for the '08/09 school year as did many students and alums. DG doesn'take no for an answer and the result will be Boone Ver.2.0 that will be unveiled in April. Whether the school eventually adopts the new mascot is unknown but props go out DG and all the alumni and students who have donated and helped the cause. The administration has yet to come up with any alternative and the students and many alums are very enthusiastic about the new people's Boone. Congrats to DG on a monumental grassroots effort which he built from nothing.
Also it is great to see students like Scott who want to be involved in an effort like this. The whole new Boone is a collective effort by the current students and alums who have great respect for DU and its history and traditions.
Scott already has a following in the student section (even though it is only about the first four rows but hey those rows rock it) so he will make an awesome mascot. love you scott! and please continue to tie yourselves together even with the mascot suit on
We need about 750 more Scott Fusons in that DU student section.
Congrats, Scott and do your fellow students (and old fart alumni proud like us) proud.
Wouldn't it be great if the DU Hockey team and the new Boone were all at the Frozen Four!
Talk about a coming out party!
I just wanted to take another opportunity to thank all the alumni for their support in bringing back this great tradition to DU. None of this would be possible without your support. Also, I would like to thank DG and his team. Their efforts have gone above and beyond what any of us current students could have ever asked for. We are all behind you 100% in this movement.
Look forward to seeing everybody this Saturday at the BBQ and at the DU vs CC game.
Go DU!!
Long live 52 year droughts.
Scott - as an alumni who chipped in, thanks for everything you're doing. Your involvement and enthusiam is much more important than the few bucks I threw in.
This is great to see and hopefully we can keep this thing going.
Long Live Boone!
