The Los Angeles Kings have signed University of Denver Senior defenseman Patrick Mullen to a two-year entry-level contract, Kings GM Dean Lombardi announced Friday.

Good luck Mullen... it was a pleasure to watch you perform for 4 years!

DU would have been in real trouble if Veideman, Testwuide & Mullen had not been converted to defense.

Its been a crazy couple of years with unplanned departures of Fast, Seabrook & Trotter. Hopefully we'll enter a period of stability and I think it will result in more NCAA Tournament victories.

It was great to watch Mullen leading the charge up the ice, leaving forwards in his wake.

Patrick was one of the most versatile players Denver has had in recent years. His work ethic was what makes watching college hockey so enjoyable. I`ll always remember his diving save of a sure empty-net goal in a recent game, even though the game was already lost.

Well, Testwuide wasn't really converted to defense. He was a defenseman in juniors and as a freshman, then was shifted to forward for his sophomore season then back to defense for his final 2 seasons.

Gwoz has had a very good track record of converting forwards to defense, however. Even back in his first season at DU, he converted Petri Gunther into a very solid defenseman. Matt Laatsch is another who came in as a forward and left a very good d-man.

Best of luck to Mullen. His versatility made him a very valuable player and contributor. He had some rough moments this year but seemed to rebound well and had a strong season.

Following in Daddy's footsteps, I see! Good for you, Patty! It's been a fun 4 years in the WCHA. You got Learned at DU; now time to focus on hockey, take your vitamins, eat, lift & bulk up and do us proud! Keep #7 !!
