Work Begins On Alumni Pioneer Mascot Costume

(above) Our new mascot is coming to life and should be introduced at the Frozen Four in Washington next week

The company in Canada that is constructing the unofficial Pioneer Mascot has begun work on costume. The costume is being purchased by alumni donations and will be handed over to DU students upon completion next week.

Here are some shots of the carved head before it is hollowed out and covered with fabric. They have drawn in the eyes as more naturalistic than those shown in the costume sketch as per our request. The eyes will have a brown iris and black pupil and show some white around the outside.

We will post more photos of the costume as they become available.

So I guess it's a "done deal" Bozak is gone. I wish him well.

That has to be the ugliest thing I have ever scene. You idiot's actually paid for this? Classic

How many things have you scene before? Also, you should learn how to use an apostrophe. Classic.

I can't believe Chancellor Coombe uses such poor grammar. :-)

Wow, you're just as stupid. Read the anonymous comment above at 12:50... that person said "That has to be the ugliest thing I have ever scene".
Perhaps the person below that was making fun of the misuse of scene? Hmmmm, the sentence is actually directly making fun of the misuse of scene in the previous comment. Classic.
Go back to your coloring book 2:59 Anon. You're making yourself look stupid.

I bet his coloring book is filled with the colors of green and black... and of course, not inside the lines because that would be too difficult!

Apparently no one has a sense of humor here. I'm pretty sure the first anon at 12:50 was just busting some balls. Remember, it is April Fool's Day and jokes/pranks/whatever can come in many different flavors.

Grow some prunes and get over yourself.

Also, who is this 2:59 Anon supposed to be anyway -- I do not seem to see a 2:59 Anon post.

Positive comments please. I've been following this mascot controversy with interest, though have not "blogged" before. For bloggers with unnecessarily critical comments, please remember, those who have been orchestrating the return of Boone, asked for comments regarding the
the mascot's look. Few people weighed in on this. Anonymous is certainly entitled to his/her opinion, but where were you when the questions were asked, re: "What should Boone look like?" Enough negativity! I say, good job on the alumni's and students' efforts to boost school spirit at DU. Thank you for your efforts.

People can be critical of the mascot. Its not the official mascot of the school and to think that a group of alums on a shoestring budget can come up with a "homerun" is a bit of a stretch. Many schools spend $25,000-40,000 on their mascots.

I just hope that our transparency throughout the process shows DU what they should be doing in the Social Networking Era.

We solicited opinions openly, we raised money publicly, we're providing documentation of the construction on the costume and we're unveiling it in DC and Invesco Field.

DU on the otherhand held closed door H & T meetings, made secret deals with the faculty and the Coombe acted like some kind of a demigod on a decision he had no business making, for reasons that were ridiculous.

To those who have donated, contributed ideas and given us positive feedback and encouragement - THANK YOU.

Go DU & Long Live Boone. :-)

It's meaner than Boone and no where as stupid as a Red Tail Hawk... I like it. After all, if you don't like it, design your own and raise your own money. Don't disparage something unless you can actually do "better". Kinda like people who rip on players and/or coaches (or even referees) -- pretty sure you would actually not do much better.
