Mile High Hockey Blog Says Avs May Draft Pioneers

Angelique Murray who writes the Mile High Hockey Blog thinks the Colorado Avalanche may have a few players with DU connections in their sights on Draft Day. She thinks Drew Shore, Willaim Wrenn, Paul Phillips and former DU prospect Stepan Novotny are possible Avs draftees.

Check out her Colorado Avalanche Draft Preview.

I think Drew Shore will be drafted by the New York Islanders with the 26th pick in the 1st Round or the first pick in the 2nd Round.

If the Avs want Wrenn they better take him with the 33rd or the 49th pick in the 2nd Round. I think he's going to be a sleeper pick that goes in the mid-2nd Round at latest.

The DU coaching staff usually have a good idea who's going to be drafted since they are obviously questioned by NHL scouts about various prospects. They cite David Makowski, Adam Murray & Paul Phillips. Of the three, I'll guess that Makowski goes late in the draft and that Murray & Phillips are on the fence.

If I was an NHL team I'd throw a 7th round pick at Shawn Ostrow.

Not much coverage of Matt Donovan, what is his story?

Donovan was drafted by the Islanders last year and is high on their prospects list.

I thought Wrenn would go before Shore

So how long can John Moore leave CC hanging?

CC is confident that Moore will show up. Wonder if he's enrolled in summer school at CC and working out with the team? If not, I'll guess that its better than 50-50 he'll end up with the Kitchener Rangers.

This week USA Today had Wrenn as a potential 1st Round pick and Shore as a 2nd Round pick. Every other Mock Draft that I've seen online has Shore going earlier than Wrenn.

That being said, I wouldn't be shocked to see Wrenn go high in the 2nd Round. Hard to see Shore, who at one time was considered a Top 15 pick, falling past the first few picks in the 2nd round.

Moore will do what his NHL drafting team tells him to do.

If they prefer him to be at Kitchener, that's where he'll be. If they want him at CC, he'll be there.
