UPDATE: Finley & Frattin were booked at the Grand Forks County jail and then released on cash bond (Finley, $300; Frattin, $600) shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A former UND hockey player and a current one were arrested about 3 a.m. Tuesday after a campus officer saw the men throwing cups, plates, a kitchen table and a lawnmower onto a Grand Forks street, UND Police Lt. Dan Lund said.

Joe Finley, 22, and Matt Frattin, 21, are both charged with disorderly conduct. In addition, Frattin faces a fleeing charge and Finley faces a charge of giving false information to officers. All the charges are misdemeanors.

Lund said Finley and Frattin were throwing objects from a residential garage on the 400 block of North Columbia Road, where one of the two men lives.

“It was their own property, so there was nobody’s property that was damaged other than their own,” Lund said. “They said they just kind of routinely destroy each other’s stuff.”

However, the pair managed to make a mess.

“There was glass from curb to curb from the dinnerware that they threw,” Lund said.

He said the debris created a hazard that traffic had to be directed around. Luckily, a street cleaning crew happened to come by and clean it up, Lund said.

When first approached by police, Lund said, Finley ran around a house but stopped when officers told him to. Frattin ran into a home, not stopping when instructed to, and was consequently charged with fleeing, Lund said.

Police said Finley showed them a credit card with someone else’s name on it. When asked if his name was the one on the card, Finley said it was, Lund said. At the jail Finley gave his real name.

Police said Finley told them somebody else gave him the credit card. Lund said police think the credit card belongs to a friend of Finley, but the matter is still under investigation.

Finley, a first-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in 2005, played four seasons for the Sioux, scoring seven goals and adding 28 assists for 35 points in 154 games. He signed with Washington at the end of the season and participated in the team’s development camp earlier this month.

Frattin, an Edmonton native, scored 13 goals and added 12 assists for 25 points in 42 games as a sophomore last season. He was the team’s third-leading goal scorer and seventh-leading overall scorer.

For those of you keeping score at home...

And the season hasn't started yet!

You duplicated a bunch of items there by naming the item and then naming the plea or punishment as another "run-in." Also having the chief of police address the team isn't exactly a "run-in" with the law.

There are certain things that you take to the bank...CC's demise sometime during the season and one of ND players getting into some sort of trouble with the law.

The players should claim that they were breaking the plates to celebrate "My Big Frattin Greek Wedding."

Clearly the practice of braking plates is protected under the first amendment of the US Constitution. :-)

This isn't a surprise... When the TV announcers start calling Finley a "goon" on national television, you know he's pretty much an idiot.

You might want to follow up on the credit card Finley had in his possesion. Didn't a Michigan player get thrown off the team for stealing and using a teammates credit card?

Looks as though Big Joe has a history of run ins with the law. He should fit in well with all of the other thiefs in DC.

That's only a partial list of UND's offenders over the past decade, anonymous #2, so do you really want to go there?

The credit card is an interesting angle. If it belongs to a UND Booster and charges were made back while Finley was playing....

Of course the card may belong to a Cougar, but that's a whole different issue.

Nice mug shots of a couple of turds. The combined IQ of those two dimwits isn't even approaching room temperature.

What else is there to do in Grand Forks when its not hockey season?

WOW....Just another "wild night" in Grand Forks....what fun

Anon 12:08, wait a gosh darn minute! We UND alums have much higher IQs than room temperature! Oh wait, you probably meant Fahrenheit and not Celsius. Never mind.

Since Big Joe originally said the name on the credit card was his name, I'd tend to think it didn't belong to a cougar. If you are in fact implying Big Joe played like a cougar that is an interesting point.

The credit card is potentially the most damaging aspect to the story. If as dgoddard speculates, the card belongs to a booster and Big joe used it during the season or even during the school year there could be big trouble for UND.

If anybody in journalism up in Grand Forks was really looking to break a story with big implications they should "follow the money".

What other UND offenses are not listed?

Now how the heck am I supposed to get a lawn mower into the arena to throw on the ice?

I'm just glad that there are schools like Denver University where hockey players never get in trouble. Truly a shining beacon, which every other NCAA division I hockey institution should emulate.

I'll laugh later.

Bucky should have pressed charges on Finley after the shin slahsing incident.

He was just pissed that Bucky is a better skater than him; doesn't take much.

I hope Big Joe enjoys the lime light now, won't be much during his ECHL career.

Let's see...get drunk, have a garage cleaning party at 3am, run from the cops, give false information. Lemme guess.....these two clowns couldn't get laid with $200 and a doll named Jade.

kind of funny how half of the stuff you put on the list they never got convicted of. Maybe it has alot to do with bored cops that jump the gun on alot of things. And as far as your speculation on the credit card goes. Keep digging because you have absolutely nothing to base that on. Here's a good question. How many UND players have been charged with rape in the last decade? Because I seem to remember a certain one from your oh so perfect little school in Denver.

11:33....thanks for the brilliant insight and analysis. Did you come up with all of that on your own or did your babysitter help out?

SUE SUCK

That is all

Just to be clear, no University of Denver hockey player has ever been charged with rape while a member of the DU team.

In fact, there have been no recorded police incidents with any DU player in many years.

If you are referring to Geoff Paukovich, the rape charge was as a juvenile 16 year old in Nebraska, long before he got to Denver and was officilly expunged from his record when he turned 18 after serving his juvenile probation.
