Colorado College Loses Another Recruit

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for Colorado College, another top-notch recruit has left CC dangling in the wind. Colten St. Clair, a 2010 recruit, has pulled his commitment from Colorado College and has committed to play his college hockey at the University of North Dakota instead.

Colorado College has seen star goaltender Richard Bachman & defenseman Brian Connelly leave school early for professional hockey this offseason. Then prized recruit John Moore, spurned his CC commitment to jump at an offer from the Kitchener Rangers. Last week we learned that assistant coach Mike Guentzel was leaving CC for a head coaching gig in the USHL.

You have to wonder if any of these seemingly unrelated events are connected.

Let's be real here - this is a huge rivalry. People in both cities have screamed "CC Sucks" and "DU Sucks" for years and years and years.... But honestly - have you EVER seen something of this magnitude happening to either school? The Colorado College hockey team is literally self-destructing as I type this. My biggest regret in all of this is, that the rivalry is fizzling out. Looks like maybe North Dakota is our marquee rivalry now.
To the fans of CC I say.... thanks for the tradition... but, you always have... and still do... truly and honestly... SUCK!

It's been a summer to forget for CC.

On another note, I picked up the Sporting News NHL guide today. There is a 6-page feature on college hockey. SN has DU #1 in its preseason poll and has Wiercioch pegged as a 3rd-team All-American. Other WCHA teams in the SN top ten are North Dakota, Duluth, and St. Cloud.

Former CC sieve Richard Bachman was lit up tonight in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament as the St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars prospects 9-6. Bachman made 27 saves on 36 shots, not exactly a stellar professional hockey debut. St. Louis got a goal from former DU defenseman T.J. Fast in the 2nd period.
