Its a good looking schedule.

19 games this season vs. 18 games last season.

DU fans all over the country can watch these games on the "expanded sports tier" from many local cable companies and of course on DirecTV and Dish Networks.

If you're not sure if your local cable company carries FSN-RM leave us a comment and we'll help you find out.

Additional DU games against Minnesota, on CSTV, ESPN-U or the NHL Network may be announced later.

I wonder if they'll show the WCHA Final Five on FSN-RM this year. I remember last year we had to complain to FSN-RM to get the Minnesota feed.

woo the away cc games are on fsn not the horrible comcast net
also whats the deal with only one of the minny away games on tv

Look for the FSN-RM games to be picked up by Fox College Sports (FCS) which has three channels like in past years. FCS is usually part of sports packages on cable systems. Look for a lot of the non-FSN RM games to be broadcast on the internet on Pioneer Vision (pay service). Last year I literally was able to watch almost all of the DU games either on TV or on the internet. The few that weren't on either I was able to listen to on the audio broadcast on Pioneer Vision. Pioneer Vision games ahven't been listed yet on the DU hockey schedule.

Would it be dangerous to assume we finally get to see the Pios in HD now that it's the "standard"?

I would not be surprised if we still get stuck with SD because of how cheap FSNRM is. That feed is so awful its just sad...

i know we should always strive for the best and demand more, but that feed is a HELL of a lot better than no feed.

Frankly, I think we are lucky to have FSRM picking up the games. Just think of all the golf and poker reruns they could be airing on Friday and Saturday night

Exactly. It costs about $20,000 or $25,000 per game to produce a TV telecast, and I would guess that FSN RM is probably at break-even or perhaps a small loss to put 19 games on for us. DU has more high level TV games than any other program in America, other than Minnesota and maybe North Dakota,

Be very, very grateful.

Ahh, good 'ol HD. What a farce HD really is when it comes to audio/video production and playback.

The HD debate in production and playback and such is much bigger than what is allowed for this blog's comments. However, I will state that high end HD playback of audio/video is only best heard/viewed on equipment of the same quality with which it was produced. I seriously doubt that the average DU fan has a $50,000+ home entertainment system. If you do, then clamor for HD.....if all you have is an off the shelf TV and audio system that happen to support "HD", then you won't get the same benefit. In the end, its really not a big deal if the games are produced in HD or not -- because you will either enjoy the game for what it is or you won't and no amount of "HD" will change that.

They want us to just be grateful so they can continue to waste money on fluff productions based off the Rockies. Alana Rizzo is telling us nothing about the cities and ballparks the Rockies visit that one cannot look up on the internet.

As a consumer of the product we should demand the best product possible and not settle for what they decide to throw on the airwaves.

FSNRM would be out of business without their Rockies contract - thats obvious - I say let them go out of business so Kroenke can pick up the DU contract. It would probably be a bargain for him and would definitely benefit the DU telecasts.

And Nerdy Anon with the above comment -- engadget.com is nowhere near this blog; Stay there with your fear of sunlight and of cables with too much oxygen.

DO you really think Kroenke wants own the rights to DU hockey games when they already own the Avs and Nuggets, which take all the live TV slots on winter weekends?

Be very happy with FSN. Only Minnesota has a better TV deal than the Pios do....

Fair enough, Swami... I just assume that a media business-person is going to look to grow his empire at any given chance. That's all I'm doing. If there is a way for him to cash in on college sports locally I would not be shocked to see him pull all of the Region's schools together under "Altitude University" or something like that down the road. It's not competing if it is its own money-making entity. Plus there is a different following for Pro teams than there are for the College teams. Sure there is an overlap - but they are basically different markets.

I highly doubt that if many DU Hockey fans start asking about better quality telecasts that FSN-RM would drop the contract. Those extra thousands of $ that look unattractive to executives now have a way of looking better if they start thinking they can make more money by going that route.

It's great to have what we have, sure, but there is no reason that the best quality video is not sent out to the region/nation.

I don't think there is any significant money to be made in televising college hockey in Denver. I would imagine that FSN gets just enough money in advertising to cover the production costs they incur. DU probably gets a little money for providing the product, as well as a discounted ad rate for its coorporate sponsors. FSN does just enough local sports to get the credit for covering a local team, and fillssome local programming slots while the real profit is made with larger sports properties that deliver enough eyeballs to charge higher advertising rates.

I have never seen the ratings but my guess is that no more than 10,000 or 15,000 people watch DU hockey games on TV,

All of the FSN Networks presumably receive revenue from Direct TV, Dish Network and all the local cable companies. They also share programing to fill empty slots.

Its niche programing to be sure, but there is a national audience out there as well. DU hockey also has the advantage of usually being the only college hockey on TV late at night.

Random on-topic, off-topic question..

Has anyone who gets FSN-RM and Altitude on Dish Network had problems with their HD feeds the last week? For some reason I'm not getting any programming in that format; but only on those two channels.
